Morning

I bought a laptop with Windows 7 pre-installed from Game. I need to re-install the OS, but don't have the CD's. Does anybody know shop policy around this/ had any prior experience with this type of issue?

Thanks!

There should be a reinstallation image on a separate partition on the hard drive inside the laptop. Otherwise just make a fuss at game and hopefully they give you a retail copy :D.

If there was no included media then there is either a reinstall patition which you can initiate from included software in the pre-load or similarly pre-loaded software which will burn a disk for you which you can use to do the reinstall.

It varies between manufacturers. I have even seen some machines that prompt you to burn reload disks at first boot.

If it is an image, remember to make a backup of all your docs as it will most likely wipe the drive in the process of wiring the image.

If you do not come right with these options just download the iso off a torrent site or microsoft's site and use your product key underneath your laptop/battery.

Normally they give you a recovery disk and on that disk is windows (it does not look like a windows disk)

I haven't seen recovery disks included with laptops since Vista hit the market

If it is HP ,like mine, you are basically screwed. You should have made a back up disc. That is what they told me, and I need to buy the back up discs for like 1.8k. Just downloaded the torrent and never looked back.

TPB FTW! Every new laptop i get, i ALWAYS reinstall it with a fresh copy of windows... all that pre-loaded cr*p they put on there drives me MAD!!
