Is there any indication of the pricing for Windows 7? Will it have versions like Vista?

I was told to skip Vista for now and buy Windows 7 when it's out. I'm just worried that they'll ask R5,000.00 for the OS and I've missed out on Vista at R1,500 :/

It'll more than likeyl come out at the same price as Vista, which came out at roughly the same price as XP iirc

And microsoft wonder why their products get pirated so often...

But Vista ranges from R1000.00 to R4000.00 :/

The beta has the name ultimate in the filename so im assuming there will be versions like in Vista

That's the retail (& most probably upgrade!) prices - that's why you have DSP versions! You just have to buy the qualifying hardware - normal a complete PC, but some companies will sell it with a MB+cpu combo only...

Yea but I wanna buy a PC now ... so I can get the DSP Vista cheap.

But I'm told to leave Vista alone and wait til Windows 7. But then I'll be buying retail

I'd also suggest skipping vista for Windows 7. When 7 gets released you're most likely gonna want it and well spend the money getting the retail version anyway.

If you have to get vista make sure its the x64 version.

Yeah, ignore Vista - W7 should b here in July or so... And technically you aren't allowed to remove Vista from a DSP machine... Sigh... No wonder people are going for Open Source...

Think of it this way, if you buy the pc now and take the Vista with for R1500 and Windows 7 is released end of October, then you would have payed R150/month for Vista. Do you have the R150/month for Vista? :D

OMG you people are self proclaimed activists. "July or so" & "end of October"

What a load of bullocks.

Windows 7 will be released end of 2009/early 2010.

"We are currently in the planning stages for Windows 7 and development is scoped to three years from Windows Vista consumer" general availability, a Microsoft spokesman said in an e-mail Friday to InformationWeek.

"Windows Vista was released to consumers in late January 2007. That means Windows 7 would not be released until January 2010, according to Microsoft's statement. "

"Microsoft stated in 2007 that it is planning Windows 7 development for a three-year time frame starting after the release of its predecessor, Windows Vista, but that the final release date will be determined by product quality."

Aqox, stfu. We all know of the postponed/delayed way MS releases their OSes. I can use whatever date I feel like using, since there is no specific release date yet.

I don't have any issues with Vista. The 64-bit works like a dream.
R4000 for Vista?? Really? I thought it was free :p

you are able to buy DSP products with any hardware. eg.. windows + a mouse
just go to any of the smaller computer dealers and they will hook you up with DSP

+ 1 - 64bit was the best move I ever made!!

I am just amazed how people are getting DooPed into buying a "New" OS from MS, when it is essentially Vista with a different name and all the bugs have been ironed out. Unreal actually.
