Be Prepared: Windows 7 RC expires soon

On 15 February, users will start seeing notifications on their PCs, warning them that their operating systems will expire soon and reminding them to back up their data.
Beginning on 1 March, users' systems will reboot or go to a blue screen every two hours, depending on their system failure settings.
On 1 June, the Windows 7 RC licence will expire.

I'm thinking of installing XP again. Not going to pay MS for an OS that only give me DX10/11 extra (yes eye-candy too, but that's just window dressing).

Ha ha ha! "window dressing" i must totally remember that one! Works even better as "Windows dressing"!
Will come in handy the next time i'm deeply engaged in a Vista / Windows 7 debate :D

Shot!

Yea, it is not like they changed so many things behind the scenes to make it more secure.

Keep using IE6 while you are at it. :D

If you only browse MyBB and receive/send emails then even win3.11 will still be fine!

Yep, so all those that just took the free ride, sod off and we will see you back VERY soon!

I'm using FF or Chrome in any case. IE is outdated and slow, even IE8.
I only use Windows to play games. My Fedora laptop is for work.

Go back to windows xp dude, i could not go back when vista came out. You will see just how shyte xp is.

Enjoy dude :D.

any reference for your news ?

check microsoft.com out

The Windows 7 RC will fully expire on June 1, 2010. Your PC running the Windows 7 RC will continue shutting down every two hours and your files won’t be saved during shutdown. In addition, your wallpaper will change to a solid black background with a persistent message on your desktop. You’ll also get periodic notifications that Windows isn’t genuine. That means your PC may no longer be able to obtain optional updates or downloads requiring genuine Windows validation.

To avoid interruption, please reinstall a prior version of Windows or move to Windows 7. In either case, you'll need to do a custom (clean) install to replace the RC. As with any clean installation, you'll need to back up your data then reinstall your applications and restore the data.

Thanks again for helping us test Windows 7.

Wonder how many peeps installed win7RC on critical PC's... :D

imagine your webserver/email server shutting down every 2 hours... :D ...and you can't do a reinstall as you're too stingy to pay for a proper win7 licence.. :D
