Windows 7 shipping November 2009?

Microsoft's struggling to impress the masses, while Linux minute amount of users are slowly but surely gaining in strength......I hope for Mr.Bill's sake that this goes through...

Yo Mole not trying to pick a fight again :), but you have assumed that I am a windows fan boy - though I do like windows - I am open to other solutions.

The biggest problem - in my opinion - with Linux is that its not something a layman can pickup an run with. Yes Ubuntu has been narrowing that gap down a lot (actually a way lot), but there is still the driver problem here and there, and if you get a snag, you need to know Linux, and how to handle the given problem, the list commands to reset is extensive, and for the layman (aka the masses) having to type even one command is too much. For you it does not seem hard, for the layman it is.

I am dual booting Vista/Ubuntu and I like Ubuntu a lot and use it whenever I can.
 
I like Visual Studio too much to move to linux.
(correct me if im wrong, if VS does actually work in linux)
 
Ubuntu is easy for the layman, windows was difficult for me at first just like linux is difficult at first, Ubuntu has made learning linux easy for the masses.
 
Though I hate Windows, I won't convert to Linux full time until it can play all my games... which probably means never.
 
I think that Gates was one of the main driving forces behind MS if you look at his documentaries you'll see this. This might become a problem for MS in years to come.
 
Have been running pre-beta of Vista 7 Ultimate for about two weeks now, and so far it seems pretty stable. No big changes where the interface is concerned. If you unlock some of the 'protected' (unfinished) features, you get the enhanced taskbar which is a nice bonus.

After reading all these posts here, i still don't know why I must leave Xp.In my opinion Ms have lost the inspiration from the heavens when they released Xp.Whats (really) new in windows 7?

cool stuff, everything u say is true. To like Linux I suppose U need to be an "computer enthusiast".

I assume English is not high on the priority list to be the Program manager of microsoft?... Where are you "AT"?

And location tracking is one of the biggest things about windows 7?...
 
I also had a quick look at Windows 7 beta. Looked just like Vista Ultimate. I did find it funny when I used Teamviewer to remote a windows 7 pc and it told me that Vista Basic color sceme were selected.

Don't get me wrong. I love Vista will not go back to XP, but they could surely have thought about changing that msg on a different "OS".

Would have liked a total new OS really.. Maybe it's more Vista with a facelift.

What games do u want to play? it can via wine+winetricks (with rigorous configurations). I realised with Linux u can pretty much do anything, just depends on the amount of effort and time u are willing to spend in doing so;)
