I have installed W7 Home Premium on my Sony SZ notebook, everything works very well, but the OS hangs on shutdown (blank screen) and doesn't shut down - this is a PITA with a notebook as you then have to take the battery out. There is nothing wrong with the hardware, it worked fine on Vista Business.

The last time I saw this was with someone else's Sony notebook running XP, and in that case it turned out to be Norton AV causing the problem. But I don't have Norton AV on this notebook.

Any ideas ?

PS : I have checked the event logs, don't really see anything unusual there.

use msconfig to disable all startup apps and test shutdown - if shutdown is ok, find the offender by way or elimination.

But first check that ypur av isn't doing a scan.

BTW you shpuld be able to power off by pressing the power button for 60 secs
