Ran Windows Update last night to install SP1 (the preferred way according to Microsoft) and it failed, seems Microsoft forgot about dual boot systems.

The fix is simple - run Repair from your Windows 7 DVD, sorts it out no problem without messing up your GRUB menu.

How would that fix it? Do you run the Repair after the update? I've installed Win7 on a separate disk and then loaded Ubuntu + Grub on a new disk, adding Win7 to the Grub menu. Will play with this ASAP

Update failed as described.

Booted from Windows 7 DVD (legal, validated) & ran Repair which said it fixed a partition problem (at which point I broke out in a cold sweat :D).

Rebooted into Windows 7 from my usual GRUB menu :)

Ran windows update again, said that SP1 still needed to be installed.

Installed SP1 (took forever).

Rebooted Windows - lengthy installing updates on the way down & configuring updates on the way back up.

Checked Control Panel, System - Service Pack 1 now installed :)

Edit: All partitions on single 500GB HDD - Fedora, FreeDOS & Windows 7

They are probably doing it to counter Windows 7 Loader. Pointless IMHO because it'll just alienate Linux users and a fix will be released sooner rather than later.

The counter measures against Windows 7 Loader doesn't work. :D

Windoze 7 SP1 requires that the windows system partition be active on multiboot pc's. Use your favourite partitioning tool to set boot blag to system. Best of luck...
