I have had quite a few call from clients who just received their new laptops & are having problems with connecting to their existing Wireless routers. It seems BThome Hub & Cisco routers are giving the most problems. Also file sharing with Windows 7 seems to be problematic must I really setup a username & password on the W7 machine so they can logon just so that other users can get to the shared files?

Anyone here had the problem and found a way around it?

Nope, haven't had those problems. Just make sure the folders' permissions allows everybody access, it's a common error I've seen even with myself.

Yes.

I have an old Senao wireless AP and an old Netgear DG814 ethernet router, neither of which can be accessed under Windows 7. I'm using the RC (build 7100) on 2 machines. Usually I can access the settings page and enter the changes I want to make, but then the device crashes when I try to apply the settings.

It's not a Win 7 problem as such, because if you allow XP or Vista to suck in all the auto updates they will also develop the same issue.

It's not a browser problem because when it decides not to work, it won't work under old or new versions of IE (6, 7, 8), FF (2, 3, 3.5), or Chrome.

It's not an AV/Firewall issue because when it decides not to work, it won't work under AVG or Avast AV's, or M$ or Zonealarm firewalls, or with all these disabled.

It WILL work on a VM even under a "non-working" host system, but the OS on the VM must be old (XP SP3 or Vista SP1 are ok) and updates must be DISABLED.

I know it's a workaround, and I don't know why it's required, but I'm not an IT person.

As far as I know, you have to have a user account set up with a password, in order to share files on a network. This applies to all versions of windows, not just Windows 7.

No mate with XP and even with VISTA (share ownership under security settings) it can be done without setting up a username.
