Windows 7

only the 1 edition eitai... ?

Shame

I has 32bit/64bit ultimate and enterprise.... :D

Well I'm currently downloading Ultimate 64bit (I also can choose 32bit) for which I only have 1 license. I also have access to Ultimate Professional 32/64, but I will use that one at work as I have 10 licenses.
Not sure what enterprise version has ... I don't have access to it, but am also guessing I don't need it :p

Does Windows 7 need to install to the drive that is marked as the first one in BIOS?

No idea ... doubt it ... there is usually an option to create and delete partitions, so you could probably change.

I say best is to unplug all drives except installation drive, then reconnect once installed. Just switch boot drives in bios when you need to run linux, XP or Hackentosh.

No funky bootloader crap required...

Option B: Virtualise linux and XP under 7, whilst leaving Mac in the dust.

hey guys, to those of you who have MSDN/TechNET/ActionPack/etc... subscriptions, who have downloaded the Win 7 ISO's, please could you do me a favor and post the MD5 hash for both the 64bit and 32bit. I have both, and just want to make sure that they are legit (not some chinese fong-kong build)...

Thanks in advance guys...

Been running the 64bit edition for exactly 29 days.... it expires tomorrow - I hope I can get into MSDN tomorrow :p

Good piece of software compares to Vista - never had a problem with Vista, besides speed... but really like 7 - especially Media Center and libraries.

About to install Ubuntu on my laptop for the first time - lets see how that goes compares.

How much are these subscriptions? About R 4000 for OS's? So one would pay about R 4000 and dload all versions of say windows 7?

I'll get this (legal or not - well see) only once SP1 comes out for it.

Seems a bit dof to wait for sp1 seeing as all the good things people have been saying about it the last few months:)

It's a Microsoft application, it's goign to come with 100 000 bugs, I'll let "you" guys figure and fix them for me :)

Yeh - cause other operating systems don't have bugs - thats why they're still on version 1.0

That vista 7 is going to be best vista ever, I guess

lol :D

In terms of bugs-per-lines-of-code, the MS OS is no different from any other software out there. In fact, it's probably got fewer buggy lines of code. One has to consider that it's been one of the biggest software projects out there with probably one of the largest code bases around, but it still is no more buggy than other things.

I finally installed it. Took 3 hours to do an upgrade from Vista. Only thing I don't like at the moment is how thick the taskbar his. Going to see if there is a way to make it a bit thinner

Right Click - Properties - Use small icons.

I don't like the task bar at all - I'll probably get used to it though.

Strangely even though windows has bugs for the most part it works flawlessly.

windows 98 was about the worst OS ever, xp was better but still unstable, vista was really stable but suffered on slower pc's, windows 7 near perfection? So it will get there.

For instance windows 7 is the first OS from microsoft that i can say is perfect for me, apart the blue screening i was getting because my overclock was unstable i have not one a single complaint about it.

Been using windows 7 RC from technet for the last month or so, and it's absolutely awesome! I love the new taskbar (have made it use small icons) and find the performance significantly better than Vista. Installed on my Acer Travelmate and didn't have to install any drivers after installation - it sorted it all out :)

note: I'm not a MS fanboy - I code on Ubuntu :P
