Windows 8.1 Preview downloadable from Windows Store

Am I correct or incorrect in assuming that existing Windows 8 users will be able to upgrade to Windows 8.1 at no additional cost?

So now I can change the size of tiles and they added a button that takes you to the tile menu.

Whoopdeefsckingdo...

Yeah that

And then you can check out more of the new features over here http://goo.gl/1OaP4

I watched their marketing video, and my summation is what they are marketing. I'll check out the links though, thanks.

It's clear that they aren't going to do what Nokia and Intel did and just continue doing what works, because it will just leave you in the dust. We all have to embrace the changes, realize that there will be problems that will be fixed and remember that they are the empire with regards to desktop software.

I always get excited when I see a new Windows update because I know it will make my PC better.

And on another note, I don't know about others but the speed of me working has increased by using Windows 8. Loving the Skype and FNB app. Snap them around my screen all day :)

Well I've just recently begun to use the swiping functions on my laptop trackpad and they are pretty time-saving. Swipe from the left and it's pretty much an app-switcher and start menu. Swipe from the right and I have the options available. Results in more screen real estate where menus used to be, so in that sense it is growing on me and I am accepting the change a little easier.

I still find the apps ridiculously limited and mostly gimmicky. I think I have two installed apps - that's it.

I also installed Pokki start menu which is awesome...

I thought Microsoft would launch the official Windows 8.1 update tonight?

If this is a preview, I'll rather wait for the official release.

Nobody likes to be a test bunny. :(

Yeah sure, I get that with the apps. However,

It is still brand new and Microsoft and the App devs are still figuring out how they can fully utilize an app on the PC.

Try out the Skype app from the store, it will give you an indication as to what is possible now and I can only see it getting better.

I've been using the Skype app for about a month, I recently opened up the desktop version and I was shocked as to how terrible it is in comparison.

Talk about doing things arse-about-face...

I don't use Skype at all. Personally, I can only imagine it being somewhat 'prettier', but I hardly see how it could be more functional...

For a lot of people who travel overseas a lot, it's the first app they install on their mobile phone, notebook or tablet.

Like abzo said once, even bad pizza still tastes good, and even better when it's free. :)

If I leave a country it's usually to get away from certain people. I don't want their faces on my laptop too...:D

As far as I now the official release s still a while off.

I see win 8.1 will have support for 3d printers. Pretty cool

Got a new work notebook and was forced to go the Windows 8 route, so had to make peace with it. :)

Did a few "alterations" to it, like wiping the notebook clean of the Toshiba image with all the bloatware on it, took a Windows 8 DVD and installed a clean copy of Windows 8 on the notebook. Because all the Windows 8 licences are imprinted on the motherboard, I didn't need a licence key and my Windows 8 copy was activated when I connected to the internet.

Now Windows 8 Pro is flying on this notebook & I'm starting to enjoy it a bit more.

Can only imagine it getting better with the Windows 8.1 update. ;)

If MS would only fix the atrocious look of Office 2013...

And while they are at it, VS2012 is pretty cr@ppy looking too. Yes - can skin/theme it - but why. Just make it good looking out the box.
