Windows 8.1 Preview downloadable from Windows Store

Just played with the 8.1 preview. I seriously hope this is not it and there is more to be done for final release.
This is simply a sad excuse for a start button. Butt ugly and a very simplified version of the origin start button.
My Win 8 has been violated.

I watched The Verge's Windows 8.1 preview on a Surface tablet & was actually impressed.

Can you post the link? Wanna see what I am missing.
I often run Win 8 in tablet mode on my XPS 12 and it works well. Have not used 8.1 though. Just checked out the start button and shut down. Criticism aimed at the so called start button.

Will tomorrow. Off to bed now.

Used the YouTube app on my S2, so no link.

Are you waiting for MS to bring the start menu back?

Not happening, they just added a button that does the same as the bottom left hot corner in 8 because apparently it's hard to move your mouse to the bottom left corner if there isn't a pretty picture

Nope. Was just curious. Don't need the start button. Takes up space on my task bar.

For me, it's not the lack of a pretty picture that's the problem. I move my mouse to the bottom left corner to "get it's bearings", then move it to an app in the quicklaunch bar (Why yes, I have made every effort to get 8 looking like XP, the pinnacle of OS UI design). I've had to add two spacer icons, that do nothing, to prevent going to metro every time it try to open IE or Opera.

See?

So even if the start button only gets used occasionally, it still replaces the spacers.

So the new "Start" button simply brings up another Metro-like interface with your apps. WTF MS...Jesus.

So now I can change the size of tiles and they added a button that takes you to the tile menu.

Whoopdeefsckingdo...

I am so glad I left this crappy OS behind :)

Well I've just recently begun to use the swiping functions on my laptop trackpad and they are pretty time-saving. Swipe from the left and it's pretty much an app-switcher and start menu. Swipe from the right and I have the options available. Results in more screen real estate where menus used to be, so in that sense it is growing on me and I am accepting the change a little easier.

I still find the apps ridiculously limited and mostly gimmicky. I think I have two installed apps - that's it.

I also installed Pokki start menu which is awesome...

Bro, if there is anything you actually like about windows 8 you need to get your head checked. It's absolutely horrible in every way imaginable. Windows 8 will be MS's financial ruin. It's over !

i use Win8 on company laptop, works well for me... would like to go the 8.1 update, but will wait till its an official update.
no time to f-around with something that may cause issues :-)

Haha. I was going to say that too but did not feel like getting flamed.
Already received indirect verbal abuse in the form that I need my head read because I actually like Win 8.

 Windows 8 here as well

I have both a desktop and laptop running Win8 Enterprise, a Nokia Lumia 620 with WP8(To be replaced with the 925 once that is available here) and a Dell XPS 10 with Win 8 RT on it, login using my MS account to all of them. Everything is everywhere, I love it.

I do draw the line at a cellphone but only because the app store is still so small. Only thing that puts me off.

Desktop running Win 8 Pro (downloading 8.1 Preview right now).
Dell XPS 15 running Win 8 Pro.
Dell XPS 12 (tablet/notebook hybrid) running Win 8 Pro with the 8.1 Preview. Looking forward to fiddling with the preview some more tonight in tablet mode. Seems like some funky changes.
All kids machines running Win 8 Pro (they resisted initially but love it now).
Media server running Win 8 Pro.

Ye - I like Win 8. Suck it haters :)

Will upgrade the rest of the machines to 8.1 Preview when the ISO is available (if not already - must check again). Download through the store is too heavy for so many machines.
