Windows 8 Consumer Preview

The new OS is just that more efficient for serious work, highly customizable to suit. Maybe you should just wait till someone else have done all the work then you can just copy and paste. Each to his own.

How is it more efficient? I have given several good explanations why it is less so, please respond in kind.

And, please watch your singulars and plurals - you are either Afrikaans or you can't write English - your writing does not come across well.

Who cares, at least I can read up and work out how Windows8 works efficiently, I do not need your English expertise for that ;)

You should have seen my Start bar folder. It got to a stage that it would display nothing until I deleted some of the applications. There was just to many!

Rather that than your blocky screen.

The new blocks eat the old blocks and you are forced to only use what can fit on the screen.

So its not a menu it's "latest applications". Interesting. Then right click on the display and open the "APPS" folder is where to organize it?

Metro is awesome, sure it takes some learning. But adapt to it and you will be thankful that you did.

EDIT: Have used it drunk and I could still find my way around, LOL

Nonono... I was kidding... they do not eat anything. It is not a latest applications... when you "pack it full" it scrolls until the end. I think it holds +- 60 blocks on my current screen without scrolling... 60 application shortcut launchers... and these I can arrange in groups too.

My apologies if it sounded a bit mean/harsh. Not intentional.

But yes thankful. It works and works well.

But we have no choice. Why can't we have both options? I'm all for it then. But ram it down my throat and I'm not happy.

As others have mentioned this a pre release, might be in the final version.

TBH I dont see corporates using the Metro interface, imagine all the PC illiterate users that now have to use Metro. So I am sure that they will keep it...somewhere.

I for one have adapted. See no need for the traditonal start menu.

Ah.. yup... with this I agree.. the choice should be present. Maybe it will still limp its way back ? This may just be a social engineering exercise by Microsoft that results in a bit more exposure than simply including a classic start menu option. Perhaps not as positive as Microsoft would have liked, but the "we heard you, like shining knights to your rescue, we have implemented it, a return of the classic start menu"...

oK! I just wanted to say.... ;)

Actually, both options ARE available. Metro is on by default but regular old Explorer is still running in the background. Clicking on the desktop tile, which should the bottom left tile, will open the normal desktop.

I'm not too fond of Metro, yet. I need to play with it quite a bit more before deciding if its a load of shyte.
