Hi guys

Does anyone have a problem with installing Win 8. I follow the upgrade route on Win 7, but at the end of the installation process a blue screen pops up saying:

"Windows installation was not successful. Your previous version of Windows is being restored. Do not restart your computer during this time."

Then after the restoration a blue screen pops up in Win 7 saying:

"We couldn't install Windows 8. We've set your PC back to the way it was before you started installing Windows 8."

My PC is new and capable of running Win 8. Core i3, 4 Gig ram, 1Tb hd, nvidia GeForce, etc.

Any ideas or help will be appreciated.

I had a similar issue with the Release Preview a few months ago.

It turned out the ISO I downloaded and tested 3 times was corrupted. So verify your installation hashes to see if it is correct or not.

Lol I bought windows 8 but am not going to upgrade for at least 4 months. This is Microsoft after all...

I am using the boxed version not the ISO download. That is the scary part...

Brother downloaded and installed it last night. Took ages, and there was incompatible software (USB 3.0 host controller, and some
error popped up later during installation but it continued), but after that, it works perfectly.

I'm only using Microsoft Security Essentials, but the installer uninstalls it automatically before the installation begins.

Then I suggest you check the log files and see where the hangup is. Just google where 8 installation saves it.

I do not understand. I did not cancel anything during the setup.

Do you have UAC enabled on 7? Disable it and test again (reboot to apply the change).

Disabled, but the same error. It gets to a screen that reads: "Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart. We're just collecting some error info, and then we'll restart for you. If you'd like to know more, you can search online later for this error: SYSTEM_THREAD_Exception_Not_HANDLED (nvlddmkm.sys)"

Don't know what the dinges it means, but I will search online. Must say, if I did not snap pictures of the process, I would have missed the error.

That's a BSOD on Nvidia display drivers, uninstall the drivers & check what happens. You can use driver cleaner to make sure all is off if a normal driver uninstall doesn't work.

Perhaps clean install then, if you have a spare drive install on that. I ran Win for a while on my home pc & the reverted back to Win7.(Microsoft Partner, so i have had access for a while now). Upgraded from Win7 to Win8 with no issues, but wasn't really happy in the end too many tweaks to get certain things running. Ill revisit when they have an option to disable Metro without use of a hack ie classic start menu & when SP1 comes out for Win8.
At the moment it just feels as if I need to retrain my brain to operate the OS and an old dog doesn't take to kindly to learning new tricks :).
Perhaps you should take out your gfx card & then try the upgrade & then just put it back in after?

Back in the day this was the only way I could install XP on a machine. I suggest you try this memysefandi.

Unfortunately the option of taking out the GFX card will not work. The PC I am trying to upgrade is one of these Packard Bell all in one touch screen PC's that is still under warranty. That is the main reason for Win 8, suppose to work great for touch screens. I did found updated Win 8 Nvidia drivers and will give that a go. Thanks in any way for the help and support.

Then go back to your supplier and ask for the fix
