Windows 8 debut in October?

Microsoft may release the final version of its Windows 8 operating system this October...

Unless I have completely missed it, there hasn't been the same hype about this as there was for Windows 7.

Most people (most people are not geeks ) haven't come to grips with Windows 7. That same people also probably don't know that Windows and a PC can be separated. Still, we needed a viable operating system because Windows XP really started to show its age - much hype for Windows 7. Windows 8 must be pretty awesome to convince even me to switch.

Yes but MS does engage in planned obsolescence.
For example: right now game developers still make use of DirectX 9 because something like 65% of the worlds PC's are on XP, which does not support DX10 or higher.

Agreed. I hope it fails like Vista, so MS can learn to do the job properly. The preview release is a dog woof woof.

For me Windows 8, is great, since the start menu is gone I have struggled to get used to running the Applications from the taskbar.

Windows 8 fails... totally wrong metaphor for a desktop pc.. on the upside.. it is super fast.. its so BOSS!! but still tablet interface on a 32" HD monitor just fails miserably.

Been using XP forever, I will give 8 a whirl with a new PC when it comes out.
