I love the simplification of the different editions! And I do sincerely hope they don't release a Windows 8 Home Starter / Home Basic or similar junk that is bundled with budget laptops. This will make life a lot easier for consumers - the answer is almost always going to be be get Windows 8. For businesses it will always be get Windows 8 Professional. No confusion and simple straight forward options for your average consumer.

They promised us this prior to the Windows 7 RTM, Professional & Ultimate only, licence to cover both 32 & 64bit versions so I doubt we've seen the end of OEM, Starter & Home versions on pre-built Windows 8 systems.

They just following the new expansion-pack system games are doing lately. You buy half a product and pay extra to get the full version.

Back in the Windows 95 days you got the add-on for free .This is where M$ screwed Spyglass buy telling them they can get a % of the money they where gonna sell IE for. Windows Plus! anyone?

I'm sorry Microsoft. As a Microsoft professional, who finished a major Windows 7 deployment to clients not too long ago, I find it ridiculous that you would want your customers to upgrade again!! Windows XP was mainstream for just over 10 years! - You can't just release a new OS within three years of one another and expect everyone to jump according to your release schedule.

I reject your reality, and substitute my own.

Windows 7 works perfectly and I can't see any motivation why I should upgrade. To tell the truth, I only looked at the Developer's preview briefly, but I wasn't really impressed with the new metro interface for the start menu. I think the metro interface will work well on XBox and Windows Phone, but I didn't really like it that much on my PC.

I'm usually quite eager to be on the latest OS (with the exception to XP). When Vista came out, I upgraded as soon as it was stable (SP1) and with Windows 7, I upgraded even before it was released to public (RTM version). Windows 8... I'll have another look at it once released, but I don't really see it happening anytime soon.
