- Looks in mirror - Dumb*ss you! :mad::confused:
- Downloaded Windows 8 Consumer Preview Build 8520 Last year
- it has expired
- I bought a legitimate copy
- downloaded and ready for installation.
- battling now for Day 2 to BACK data file *from outlook*
- keep on getting one of two things:
1) Windows 8 OS Auto Reboots every hour interrupting backup every time
2) An error message 0x80070021 -meaning some outlook file is still open.
- One does not update an OS without Back Ups - that is stupid - Im not prepared to loose data already downloaded due to
windows product inferiority.

I feel consumers sorry. WE are so abused by big corporates such as MS - can think of a few other adjectives that shall rather not be uttered. Might get banned for life....:D:D:D

Boot from a linux livecd and copy your data & mail folders over to another drive or partition. Alternatively try doing the backup in safe mode.

:-) i feel for u... had similar issue.... trial Windows 8 expiring... so trying to download the full version, but f'ng thing reboots before the moerse download complete...
seems Microsoft's geniae didnt think about that scenario, where u paid for the legit version, u trying to install the legit version, but their exiry policy not giving u enough time :-(
they should bring out a patch or something where if u bought a new license key, u can flush the auto boot.
of course... there would be guys abusing that too....

but they'll have to do something,... next 2 weeks many more trial/preview users are likely to want to convert to full legit version
we dont all have the nice fast & free internet, and with them not giving you the standalone upgrade download its an issue.
i had to stick computer onto fast, expensive connection, to get the download done in time before next reboot.

good luck!

Try setting the PC clock in the BIOS back to an arbitrary date in December 2012, like 15 Dec, then see if the hourly reboot scenario is still happening or not.

Also do a file search for any *.pst files on your system - the Outlook data files - and copy them DIRECTLY to an External HDD without using MS Backup - also look for any *.ost files if you have Outlook set in offline mode as well.

Once you have re-installed Windows 8 and MS Office 2010, then simply import the *.pst & *.ost files to recover all your original Outlook data.

Can you safe boot into command prompt?
Or in normal mode get to command prompt and run a command?

If you can run these commands:
slmgr /ipk XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX
slmgr.vbs -ato
slmgr /ckms

the xxxx being your product key.

I have no idea if this will work but it will change your product key to the one you purchased, maybe it will stop the trial period
