Which one do I install, there is to many opinions on mybroadband to take an informed decision.

So which one: 7 or 8 , PC will be mostly used for gaming, is Windows 8 better for Direct X?

Is it possible to have a poll?

Windows 8 + Classic Shell = More efficient Windows 7 with a different look. Simple as that. You never have to use Metro if you don't want to, so please don't listen to the haterz.

So really comes down to which one you prefer the look of. For games there is no real positive or negative for either one. I'm using Win 8, no problems at all.

Cannot say specifically for gaming, but all of those that I know who have switched to Win8 are happy with Win8

You don't even have to use classic shell on win8 unless you really need a start button.
When you log in, you can select desktop and off you go. There are many apps in the windows store if you want to use that side of Windows 8.
There is a learning curve - google is your friend for tutorials. Best advice use windows key shortcuts eg win key + D for desktop etc.

If you hate change and don't want to learn windows 8, then either load classic shell on win 8 or go windows 7.
Another reason to consider windows 7 is if you have old games/programs that will not run under win8. Other than that I would recommend win8 - It is a refined version of win7 (talking about the Deskop, not metro interface)

I've been a fan of Win7, and installed 8 about 3 weeks ago. Tiny bit of learning to do to find some things, but the general navigation is pretty efficient. Microsoft are also adding the Start button back in, so it will seem pretty familiar. There are compatibility issues with some games (for egsample, Bulletstorm won't run without a bit of tweaking), so you might want to check that the games you're playing are all compatible.

Windows 8 is great and if you require the Windows 7 start button in the left corner just install the Start Win 8, Iobit program - free download

Win8 + Classicshell.

The 8.1 update will be free a bit later on.

Is it not better to wait for Windows 8.1 ? That's coming out towards the end of the month.

Public Beta is coming out towards the end of the month, it'll probably only be available in 3-6 months. 8 will automatically get upgraded to 8.1 via Windows update. Think of it as 8 SP1

As for 7 or 8? Definitely 8

Learn the gestures and shortcuts, it will make it an absolute pleasure to use.

Win 7 - By far the best, most efficient and most stable OS ever released by Microsoft.

Win7 definitely. I'm currently using win8 with start8. It costs just 5 bucks so support them.
