Windows advice please ??

Hi all, as a relative newcomer to computers , only since 2010, I'm hoping someone can steer me here.

I and all my family have only ever used Macs.

I am busy helping a memory/mobility impaired friend to use a computer but his family have started him with a PC.Thanks to Skype I'm helping him a bit but need to buy the simplest/ cheapest laptop so I can see what he is doing live time. We have emails and Skype sorted but nothing else.

What should I buy to match his screen and where? We don't live anywhere near each other.

I administer all my WinBlows machines from my Mac. The WinBlows machines have TightVNC installed. And TeamViewer will work too.

Teamviewer, runs on most platforms and able to view most platforms
