Windows Firewall & AVAST! Question

I am running Windows 7 and have AVAST! Free Antivirus on my new laptop. Will they clash if running at the same time and is it safe to then switch off the Windows Firewall?

Avast is an anti virus. It should not interfere with your Windoze firewall as far as I know. They perform separate functions.

Avast does have firewall like aspects (they call it network shield). They won't clash though. Its fine.

I do not use the windows firewall. Guess i just do not trust it. Try comodo or Zonealarm as free alternatives
