I searched for threads on MyBB relating to Firewall's, and found this one (below) going back to 2005, so would appreciate some up-to-date info.

Can I get a few suggestions as to whether Windows Firewall on Windows 7 is regarded as good enough, in conjunction with Microsoft Security Essentials & Spybot-Search & Destroy which is the current setup on my PC.
Should I consider other Firewall's instead, and if so, which, in order of preference ?

Also, is Spybot better at detecting spyware compared to Windows Defender ?
Once again, is it necessary to consider other anti-spyware / adware, or is what I have running OK ?

Subsequently I see, this should have gone into the Networking & PC Security thread.

Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) offers real-time protection against viruses, rootkits, trojans & spyware, while Windows Defender only protected against spyware. MSE is very good, so no need to splash out R300/R400 on an anti-virus program.

MSE will disable Windows Defender when it's properly installed, but Windows Defender cannot be removed from a Windows 7 pc.

The Windows Firewall + MSE is more than enough for home security, I'm using it as well. You will be fine. ;)

That's exactly what happened & I couldn't work out why, as I'd previously used Defender which detected a spyware file, so you've answered more than one question here - thanks again.

I use MSE+Win 7 firewall, along with the usual firewalls in our ADSL router. I've had no issues so far, my system runs well, and I'm not constantly annoyed with popups every few moments informing me of some or another firewall alert. Overall, I'm more than happy.
