"Hot on the heals of Microsoft patching the Windows Genuine Advantage program against malicious scripts and hidden checkboxes, an interesting new workaround has been discovered. It seems that running GenuineCheck.exe in Windows 2000 compatibility mode generates a valid authorization key for all systems running versions of Windows XP.

As per usual, the workaround has been posted on most of the commercial news sites like CNet, leading us to believe that Microsoft will want to patch it up quickly. The program has been the object of much criticism since it became a mandatory step in automatically updating Windows machines a few weeks ago."

Well I didnt see it in the Adsl discussion thread. IMO he is only trying to announce that the WGA has been cracked. Moving along using a simple script and plugin to your browser gets rid of the nasty M$.

Yeah, i though it might be interesting u know, i dont eat broadband, cause the javascript was fixed and now there is this curcumvention method

There's another way to disable it as well...

Click on Tools menu in Internet Explorer, go to Internet Options, click on Programs menu, click on Manage Add-Ons, locate "Windows Genuine Advantage" in the list and then click disable. :D

Wasnt my intention to snap, just thought there would have been a better section for this thread......

Additionally dont take it to heart, had a bad day... Telkom and all......:s

None taken was pondering myself should i put it in "Ammoucements" or "Off Topic"

BTW: if you have a corporate CD-KEY the validation is also pointless ;)

probably under internet security.... yeah corp cd-keys are nice, dont need to valadate...

Even if you have a genuine copy of XP I'd still recommend installing the corp edition just to avoid all the activation and validation crap. I'm hoping they still have a corporate edition when Vista is released.

Longhorn is going to be a load of junk, too much activate this, activate that.....

I love the corp key, but yeah I suspect that longhorn will be activation heaven, would not be surprised if it validates itselft everytime it boots up. I can see it already, you change the keyboard and need to phone microsoft to get a new key :p

For this workaround you need at least one genuine copy of WIN XP...

well you guysa do know that there is no need to do anything

just let it auto update, doesnt valadate a thing

This method doesnt work anymore.

If you try to do this it tels you that you might have changed the compatability mode and your key is therefore fake.
M$ have cought on, sorry guys.

But like they say, the best thing to do is simply change your XP key (you get apps to do this for you) to a corperate edition. Then all WGA checks simply fly by. Alot easier than faking a code anyway.
