Hi there...

My pc won't load windows... I've tried everything I know... It won't even load into safe mode... I've managed to get a linux cd (fedora 7) and all the files is still in tact and no errors is present on the drive itself... When I try to do a repair with a windows cd, it doesn't boot up...

I can't even format it...

Is there a way I can get it to work again?

By the sound of it... it's not a software fault. And if you can boot it up in Linux, that means most of your components are working. What's the last thing you did before it broke?

Nothing... The power went out...

and after that... nothing...

Odd... Windows has a 99% chance of successful boot after sudden shutdowns. Perhaps you've hit the 1%. Well, I'm out of ideas.

damn...

isn't there any files i can try to copy over from linux to the exsting windows folder via memory stick???

do you perhaps know why i won't boot up with a XP cd???

Process of elimination - try everything and do everything, something is bound to work.

Do every repair option that is available, check cables, fiddle in bios, thump it, have a break, come back, repeat.

how can i fix it???

do you guys know?

i do have the newest bios, but it's a bin file...

Take the battery out for a few minutes - no likely to do anythng, but do it just for the fcku of it.

You could take a photo of your broken PC, and when its fixed, post it so we can see

You said you managed to view the files with a linux cd, when you insert a windows CD nothing happens? Is that right?

What happens when you boot into windows - what screens appear? Anything? Zippo, something..

You said you .....'cant seem to get into the bios'- what does that mean?

i tried the "remove the cmos battery" option... and it worked... i can actually enter the bios and i'm able to boot from the cd now...

wierd stuff...

the main problem is... windows starts up, but when it enters the load screen, it loads for 10 seconds or so, stall and then restart...

but i'll let you know if the repair worked...

Excellent!

One thing i have learnt over the years is to try everything and anything when you stuck - even if you think 'no way, this wont work' - just do it, you have nothing to lose.

it didn't work...

when i get to repair, it takes me to the recovery console in dos-mode?

and all that's displayed is c:\>

what now?

others will need to sort you out in this section

help/? - this brings up options - look for fixmbr.... and a couple of others i cant remember...

it didn't work...

when i do a repair, it just takes me to the recovery console page (ms-dos mode) and give me this...

c:\>

what now?

press F8 for save mode, can you boot into save mode now?
remove memory, replace with some from another pc that works
