Windows NT cant restore files to new folder

Hi everyone, I have a problem with an old NT box. It had a virus - as you sign on it loads user settings , then kicks you back out to sign on. So, I copied the complete drive ( as its old and only had about 5 gig of data ), reloaded with NT and now when i want to put the data back onto the newly formatted drive it wont let me. I have tried putting it on an externat drive and copying which went ok. But in the machine there does not appear to be any datat there.
Pleez help!

What type of external drive are you using? USB? If so, with NT4 it won't work as NT4 won't recognize USB devices.

Alternatively, if you're able to see the drive, but not the files, the virus might have encrypted them.

What about FAT vs NTFS and so on?

NT should be able to read NTFS - but knowing M$ they have ways and means of throwing a spanner into the works as well...

If you format a HDD in XP then chances are NT won't read it.
