Windows Store Apps

This is the best Weather app for WP7.8 I've come across.

Forecast.

I have been searching for the best live tile weather app since I got my Lumia 610.

Given the fact that there is the RAM limitation (256MB) on the phone, its been hard to come by apps that support real (fully functional) live tiles.

For 8 weeks now I've been looking for a AccuWeather replacement because Accu doesn't really update on my phone. It just flips.

Anywho, here are some of the good features of Forecast IMO (you may disagree):
- Tile flips
- Tile updates every hour, 3 hours, 6 hours or twice a day
- Tile shows current weather (front of tile) three days' weather (back tile)
- Good graphics, but not better than AccuWeather
- Tile is customisable - choose front and back tile color (including images as backgrounds, yes of the tile)
- It has a simple minimalist design on the tile
- Opening the app is fast (a huge advantage over AccuWeather on my 256MB RAM device)
- Add as many tiles of locations as you want - e.g JHB, CTN, DBN, Sandton, Soweto and Benoni can all be individual live tiles which flip and update separetely with different colours on your start screen.

It costs R15.99 but I tell you it is worth it. Link.

Just a heads up, especially for those of you with a 256MB RAM device. Very minimalist. But, best part. It works perfectly.

TuneIn Radio is awesome.

Anyone else having issues with the MyBB app? It doesn't load anything on my phone.

App alert: "Stop the music!"

One of my pet peeves with WP. Why can't you just stop the music.

'Stop the music' does that. Perhaps a message to Microsoft.

Find it in the store - WP store aka Market Place.

Thanks for the heads up.

I've just downloaded it. I'll enjoy the ad'less experience while it lasts.

But, here is hoping that MS don't add ads to it and I can just use the one I've downloaded add free.

and the plot thickens: http://www.theverge.com/2013/5/15/4...onds-to-youtube-windows-phone-takedown-notice

Following Google's demands for Microsoft to remove its Windows Phone YouTube app, Microsoft has responded saying it's happy to include advertising. Google sent a cease and desist letter to Microsoft recently, with concerns that the Windows Phone YouTube app does not display ads. "We’d be more than happy to include advertising but need Google to provide us access to the necessary APIs," says a Microsoft spokesperson.

Microsoft appears to want to rectify the situation, noting Google CEO Larry Page's comments at I/O today. "In light of Larry Page’s comments today calling for more interoperability and less negativity, we look forward to solving this matter together for our mutual customers." Microsoft recently released an update for its Windows Phone YouTube application to support sign-in, downloads, and a full YouTube experience. The application has been available for just over a week, but Google has demanded that it be removed by May 22nd for violating its YouTube API rules.

App Alert! Dashboard PDA

Dashboard PDA is great app if you prefer larger font for your speedometer (and height above sea level, direction and time) i.e. augmenting your car's dashboard.

Not that much more useful than Nokia Drive.

App Alert! Fuse

Fuse is a news app that has very many categories.

It is a wide tile and you can pin multiple wide tiles (of your choice of group/news category) to the start screen.

The tile also has a picture for each main article featured and it flips giving the headline on the back tile. It is also free and works well on my Lumia 610. I am not sure if it updates automatically yet.

Download Fuse here.

More wide tiles can be found here.

Mobi.Timekeeper Companion app can be used for a multitude of timekeeping tasks such as projects and tasks. As a companion app you can extend the functionality by pairing it with it's Windows 8 App counterpart. You can then synchronise your timers between your phone and windows 8 device and unlock a great deal of functionality through the Windows 8 App.

WebApps.

For apps that flip and update on the start screen. Great for low RAM phones. Works flawlessly on my Lumia 610.

Numerous websites (business, sport, entertainment etc) with live tiles. Some even have wide tile options e.g. Windows Phone Central/Cnet.
