I seem to spend a lot of time on my phone being to lazy to use the laptop(17", heavy beast).
So I'm looking for a windows tablet and coincidently vodacom has the alcatel 10 plus wich is nice and all but it is limited to 2GB RAM and 32GB EMMC storage.

FirstShop has a Lenovo Miix with "SSD" storage, but Lenovo's website claims emmc.

Can anyone recommend something that has up-gradable storage and ram, or will adding a fast 64GB micro sd suffice?

I dont think there is a consumer tablet that exists with ram and storage that can be swapped out and upgraded, tablets are typically sealed units. Fast SD card wont help if the bottleneck is happening at the ram.

Tablets are designed disposable like phones.

Get a nice big one, not ultra top of the range but a decent one (The Galaxy Tabs come to mind) and it'll last a year or two. Upgrade when it is sensible to do so

As for Win10 tablets, the new Microsoft Surface ones are supposed to compete with the ipad pros. Why not give those a shot?

Or at least thats what I do :)

Disposable by user habits or unrepairable?

Phones and tablets are repairable, with exception of Microsoft Surface. It seems Microsoft didn't put any engineering efforts and glued everything together, including LCD panel. These are disposable by (lack of) design - unrepairable.

Other way around... and

Cant compare a Microsoft Surface to a Mobile Operating System, the ipad/android<anything> cant do what a surface can do.

Anycase, Vodacom has no stock of the alcatel plus 10(nor does it seem they ever will).

If you looking for a Windows based Tablet then give this one a try , we have already sold over 3500 units since the beginning of this year and have 1500 units left.

Everyone that I know that has bought one loves it as it has the functionality of a Notebook in a Tablet form factor.

It is a bit light on memory and storage but for doing the odd spreadsheet , using word , browsing the web it is fantastic and with the price of this Tablet with Windows 10 professional it is definitely one to look at

The only drawback is that is Wifi only but that can be overcome by the full size USB port on the unit which works with most 3G/LTE dongles

Its a trap

Seriously, 1gb ram and windows 10. Most users will install chrome and then wonder why the thing grinds to a halt.

Thx @Esquire but I'll pass.
As Zenthrax said, 1GB ram, and 16GB storage just won't cut it.

You can't, tablet systems cannot receive hardware upgrades. Why not get something with higher RAM & Storage, however they are expansive.

Samsung Galaxy TabPro S 4GB 128 GB Win 10
Microsoft Surface Pro 4 4GB 128 GB Win 10

Microsoft Surface 3 and Asus Transformer Book T100 will probably be cheaper, less Ram & Storage and Win 8.

If you want proper Windows 10 and want something to basically replace a laptop, then expensive is the only way, anything cheapish and lower spec will just frustrate you and end up in the bin. Think MS Surface, Galaxy Pro tab etc. A friend tried this same excersize with a Android tablet, he thought a Lenovo cheapy will do fine. It was nice and fast for the first few days with excellent battery life, but then he installed a couple of apps, loaded his SD card with music, docs and a movie or 2 and it grinded to a halt. Now 2 months or so in, the thing frustrates him to no end, the smallest task loading a app, opening a webpage takes ages, the battery life is terrible. He's ready to bin it.

Seems like an ultrabook would be an better choice. But they're too expensive for my blood.

The "SSD" on a tablet isn't the same as the one in your pc. The problem isn't opening them up but that they are systems on a chip, or more accurately on a board. And as said windows requires high spec just to run satisfactory.

Even if you could replacing components on a new tablet will just push the price up to the point you might as well have bought it with what you need.

Well depending on your budget, I have a Surface Pro 3 i5 8GB ram with 256GB SSD I'm willing to sell (to finance an upgrade to the new surface book :D). Also includes the Surface pro docking station if you want to use external monitors, keyboard/mouse, etc. Could even replace your laptop :p. Send me a PM if interested.

It's way beyond what I'll spend on a toy like this in any case

Microsoft Surface Pro is a one piece of disposable electronics. Mystic Twilight sell it as he/she knows that the stuff in unrepaireable.

Well my selling decision must be terrible, since I wanted to get a surface book to replace it which is another non-repairable device :crylaugh:
