Greetings Vodacom,

What are the chances that Vodacom can Zero Rate Windows Update downloads, as does the downloads from vodacom.co.za?

:D

What bit of "Take you for everything you have" don't you understand? Our telecoms companies are just like our government, except that they actually fire incompetent people in some cases. yes, I know all of you will say that their service center people are incompetent and they don't get fired, but I think it's all part of their evil plan to take us for every buck we have;-P

Try asking vc nicely for a gift voucher for the value of the 14% off the VAT for your next jar of vaseline. Better chance of success.

I can understand why you would want this, but I do not think it is fair to ask Vodacom to "support" Microsofts updates. The reason why the downloads on vodacom4me is zero rated, is because it is a Vodacom product and therefore it is reasonable to expect that to offer better customer satisfaction, that these download be zero rated.

That is one of the big reasons why I truly do not like Windows. When I was still using Windows and had to do a clean install, boy, you should have seen that data counter start running when MS starts doing its updates.

I know it is not what you want to hear, but I very much doubt what you asking for will happen. Neither do I see any of the other ISP's offering this? Or is there?

As amazing and great as that would be for Windoze users, why stop there? I want my Linux and other OSS updates from mirror.ac.za zero rated long before you get your Windoze updates zero rated - IMO that would increase the local shift towards open source software and Linux in particular :). Vodacom could do better and provide its own local mirror similar to mirror.ac.za, and zero rate traffic involving that mirror on its own network.

Neither of us are likely to get what we want bcos it is unreasonable to ask Vodacom to sponsor our data usage, energy would be better spent encouraging Vodacom to decrease its pricing [very very long overdue], and encouraging Vodacom to cough up uncapped products [at reasonable prices].

It's worth a try asking :D

For sure...and I am glad you did, as I am sure you are not the only one wondering about this. Those MS updates can take a massive chunk out of your bundle....and im not sure what it is like now, as I have not used Windows on my personal laptop for a very long time, but when you start up the PC the first time or did a clean install, it will start downloading the updates on its own, and if you dont notice on your dashboard the data counter running, you can be in for a nasty surprise. That is also why Vodacom has a sticker on the modem boxes basically saying that your laptop/pc is your responsiblity and they will not be held liable for usage and damage etc etc incurred because of viruses etc etc.

Perhaps write to MS and demand a refund for security patches that they keep on scrambling to push on you hehe.

Now there is a great idea :), just get a lawyer to write that letter and see if M$SA settles out of court, for all the money spent on data transferring hotfixes, patches and service packs.
