Windows Updates

Hey PPl

Many times ,many of us have been challenged with a Windows patch that causes havoc.Its only in the end that we determine that its a patch and then either remove it or resort to system restore to bring to normal state.

Is there a website that we can check stability of these patches before installing them on our server?I am sure someone is testing it !This will really save plenty of unnecessary downtime.

Perhaps it is because no-one could relate to your problem...
If you have concerns about updates, setup a test lab where you can test the updates yourself, prior to deploying it into your environment.
If that is not good enough... try google to check if there were any issues with a particular update.

Google windows autopatcher, go to their site, download the autopatcher and run it. Once you have done this it will give you an option as to which operating system updates you want, which addon packs for different versions of office etc.

Once you have downloaded the updates you can run it (as the downloads have been saved offline) and you get to pick which updates you want to install (as it will say which 1's are relevant to your operating system).

Run virtual pc and use autopatcher inside virtual pc and you have found urself a winner.

This is a great strategy, dont forget to install all the software you would normally use. I have had windows update's conflict with other software before.

Great idea for a test environment but i must admit that these updates sneak on you when you least expect.The normal install and test if application works will not suffice as it needs to be simulated as a user for a few weeks.By that time its kind of late since you have the next batch of updates.We process a change control form before we apply any updates on our servers and furthermore only install and restart during the weekend due to weekly tape backup times.
