Anybody here running Windows Vista Beta2?

Does our 'beloved' iBurst desktop modem work with it?

Read the article about Vista on Tom's Hardware and now I will have to organize a copy! Unfortunately my TechNet subscription has run out a while ago!

hehe, i am having enough crap with office2007 beta 2. u sure u wanna give vista a shot?

On the technical note: is ur UTD connected via usb to ur pc/u running ethernet/wifi? if it is the latter 2 then there shouldnt be any worries. If it is the former, then you might struggle to find drivers, though u could risk trying to run the normal XP drivers and hope they work. shouldnt really be any reason for them not to, but with M$ u never know.

If its the desktop modem, just run it over ethernet instead of over USB. You should be doing that anyway, and I am pretty sure beta 2 offers PPPoE support.

I'm soooo tired of Windows XP!

We all know XP is just 2000 with 'skins' added and a few tweaks here and there, while Vista is something completely new - I like the look of it and many new features added to Explorer. You can read the article http://www.tomshardware.com/2006/05/31/windows_vista/ on Toms Hardware.

They even revamped good ol' Freecell with a 3D interface.

kingrob : Vista was meant to be all new. Then feature after feature got cut back. It is now not much more than a new shell for XP with (annoying) UAP

I still think Vista wil rock just because it will look so much cooler and you know there will be some improvements, I mean the firewall is supposed to be half useable now!! that means something must be happening right?

All the new MS software is also looking nice, MP11, MSN 8 etc..

Ja and all the software, vista included looks suspiciously like a Fedora rip off  Eg. IE 7 beta now with tabbed browsing, etc....

Yep thast what I meant, but IE7 isnt all that great, huge step up from IE 6 i geuss.. MP11 and MSN 8 are cool too.
Plus windows defender isgreat, will be nice to see PC being shipped and actually safe from the start.. new firewall + MS defender = safety - a AV pretty much.

I get tired of having to 'patch' a fresh install of XP with all the driver CDs and then use my whole month's bandwidth to update XP's files.

I like it when I just put in one CD/DVD, it detects and installs all drivers for my mobo chipset, sound card, etc. and I'm ready to go...

Yup, I feel the same. Recently my Windows 2000 became corrupted due to a power failure and I was forced to re-install the OS. It's a real hassle to download and install all the patches/fixes every time you install a Windows operating system.

Um.. download them once and burn it too a CD, always comes in handy, or just store it on your non-system harddrive, if you have one.

Your friends will also be really gratefull when you can wip that out.

hm.. doesnt actually look too godd, but only 3/5, the 5/5 is apparently much better with transpaency or something.. MUNCHES ram and CPU htough..
Looks like I'l have to upgrade again next year.. *sigh

I've been running IE7 beta2 now for a few days and it is fantastic. Love the new simplified interface, the new phishing filter and it feels like it has been optimized for iBurst - let's use good ol' Sentech's quote - IT'S TIME TO FLY. :-)

Only negative so far is the amount of RAM IE7 uses - when I open it, it's already munching 74MB of RAM, but I suppose that's why it's still beta. Even if it uses 74MB with final release, I'm not really bothered, because I have 1GB system RAM (as most new pcs nowadays).

M$ will obviously optimize & fine-tune it before final release, but so far it's looking good...

Vista beta 2 does not run the iburst. i am running vista now for 2 months and although it's a whole lot better than xp it lack a great deal of driver support as well as software. The likes of xp 64bit too. i can hardly ran any of my software on it. So my suggestion is to wait until vista has hit the shelves and wait maybe 1 yr thereafter so that most companies can get their software, drivers, etc sorted

it should run it no problems if you connect iburst over ethernet. provided of course that your ethernet card has drivers.

I've read a lot about Windows Vista beta in the last three weeks and it seems that M$ is not really sure what Vista should be.

Also, there will be 15 different versions of Vista and when I ran the upgrade advisor tool, it told me that I should go for Vista Ultimate. If I'm not mistaken, Vista Ultimate will be the most expensive version, except for Vista Corporate, or Vista Professional, as it will be named.

That sucks big time, because I don't think Vista will bring a lot of new technologies & features to the table and I thought Vista would be cheap - it's not.

Me thinks me will stick with XP Home, but download the final versions of IE7 & Media player 11.
