The slickest OS from Microsoft by far. I dare say it is cooler than Apple.

So far no glitches and it installed seemlesly. This is Vista RC1 I am refering to. Seems like MS got rid of the "pro" versions. This one is called Windows Vista Ultimate.

Yip M$ have caught a huge wake up in the past year or so. Vista really is awesome. Even if we look at their new line of products and services during the past year - Office 2007, Windows Live Messenger, WMP11, Windows Live Mail etc they all have a slicker and better feel to them.

Agreed :D

hmm.. was gonna download RC1 at end of the month, guess I'll just get that 1 then :)

I hope you guys all enjoy it. I am sticking with my OS X and only venturing over to M$ when absolutly required. :)

I don't like it so much, when you disconnect from the internet I don't want to see fancy graphics just to see a whole lengthy process of disconnecting.

And User Control protection is a pain in the @ss.

RC1 also randomly deletes files & release / reconnect the Network as it feels like.

I do not know of any rc2 being released today.

there is always scope for error, but I am sure they wouldve send me notification of this. They like me.

RC2 will be released today. I am a beta tester, and have received notification of this via email from MS

serves me right for posting before i get to work to check my emails.
:-)

as usual , just fiished d/loading 5739 and now rc2 is out..grr..takes up a lot of time

hmmm..just gone to the TAP website and nothing new listed. 5739 is the latest, release 3/10/06

No it doesn't. I doubt if even Windows'95 randomly deleted files. Especially since it asks you to keep a copy if overwriting the same file with a newer or older version.

Win95 is famous for its blue screens :D

And the opaserv worm just loved win95/98... :D

Crappiest of 'em all was WinME...

yay! at work now, got the email...rc2 is here.

Werner, after you've played around with RC2 for a bit, can you let us know what you think & if it's a major improvement over RC1?

*I hope DirectX has been worked on, because frame rates in games took a major knock from XP to Vista RC1!

Why disconnect - unless you have dial up

And User Control protection is a pain in the @ss.

deactivate the setting then

substantiate your claim re deleting of files - I've never had a network disconnect either.

There's nothing wrong with DX10.
The frame rates took a knock because the OS has to switch to DX9 native (not DX9L even) or the games wouldn't know what to do with the API. DX10 has no cap bits and that's what the games are expecting when the query the API.

Also, gfx drivers are less than optimal currently.
