Windows Vista

you can buy the cheaper one (home basic) and then upgrade using WAU (windows anytime upgrade) built into the operating system if you feel like having the extra features and can afford it.

I was on a Vista launch from Rectron and the MS Oke said that if you buy XP Pro now you will be able to get Vista Ultimate when it is launched. Anyone else heard something in these lines as well? Cause then Ultimate will be around R1500.

I don't see it either but I would imagine you are correct;

XP Pro -> Vista Ultimate
XP Home -> Vista Home standard

For those of you who are talking about a cracked version of Windows Vista, the full version got cracked about a week ago.

What do you mean, I thought that was the final?

In fact im pretty sure it is.. well it came out a few days after MS said they were finished with Vista nad the final had been signed off etc. So the rest of the wait if just for marketing etc.. I doubt any more changes will be made to the version that is on the torrents/pirate boards now.

Yes. But I don't see that they mention which version of Vista you'll get when you buy XP Pro.

As I have it.

XP Pro -> Vista Ultimate
XP Home -> Vista Home standard

It's actually like this ;) :

XP Home > 50% off the upgrade price of Vista Home Basic or Home Premium
XP MCE > Free upgrade to Vista Home Premium
XP Pro > Free upgrade to Vista Business Edition

I actually phoned rectron on friday, and they knew nothing about Vista express upgrade. :cool:

Build 6000 is available which is the FINAL build.

Also:

Those in the vista technical beta (and who have submitted one bug or more) will be elegiable to download either Windows Vista ultimate or business editions. You’ll get a free copy in form of a unique Connect invitation to a new sub-page with the build on

I'm sure that is it. Makes sense to give Vista Business Edition for XP Pro.

When Vista gets launched. Will you buy it? Or wait for Hardware to catch up. (DX10 GPU's ect.) Or not at all (Well until you're forced to upgrade.)

Vista is graphics eye-candy (stolen from MacOSX), heavy DRM and just a lot of bloat, designed to cause mass upgrades of the current generation hardware (which itself is good enough to do anything you'd want to do anyway).

Paying R3k+ is definitely not worth upgrading from XP imho.

I installed RTM last week sometime, installed Ultimate without a serial key (which is allowed), then installed the Activation crack that is floating around, that didn't work because when i restarted it detected a change in the activation files and required to activate it then and there.

So i decided to activate, but using the phone number instead of going online. They give you a toll free number, automated system thats asks for a series of numbers, inputed it, gave me a bunch of numbers...and viola i have legitimately activated windows vista.

I did this because i remember a friend of mine did the same thing with a serial key which he got of the net for XP....there will always be a loophole for someone to find.
