When Vista gets launched. Will you buy it? Or wait for Hardware to catch up. (DX10 GPU's ect.) Or not at all (Well until you're forced to upgrade.)

I'll most likely wait until I buy another computer which comes with it pre-loaded.

It will be full of bugs in the beginning, with not much support for games or graphics cards etc - and buy the time that's all sorted...I'll be getting a new computer.

Um.. the DX10 graphics cards are coming out in a bout 4 days...

They are already in benchmarks, before Vista is even out.

And not much support for games? I'm sure game swill work fine..

I think this thread more or less covers members feelings towards it

Thanks for the link. Will be attending a Vista workshop on 07/11. Will see what MS says about their latest baby.

But I can't see myself buy Vista now, maybe after Vista SP1 then hardware and software will combine nicely for Vista. And the only GPU coming in on or soon after the launch will be more than I'm willing to pay. The only reason so far to get Vista will be for a single game that I've been waiting for for a long time.

I still remember when XP came and almost everyone's PC was too slow for it but everyone wanted to run XP since it was new.

All I'm saying newer is not always initially better.

yes, when Visa sorts out it's proplems regarding games and software bugs then i'll get, and yet another reason to upgrade to the best pc system then.

But, now only time will tell.

I dont know about buying it, as that would break a very old relationship of mine with MS, but I am definitly going to be using it as soon as it is released.

they say we only get in january but europe will get it this month

how long before its hacked and cracked and post on the net?

i think we will get it before its release date :)

The story goes that one apparently can't crack it, i read somewhere that it checks for cracked copies after every update and kills the session with 1 hour browser uptime only so you can purchase and activate legally... - suppose we will see...

ummm this is the story:

We have new technology which doesnt allow our software to be cracked

hackers/crackers:

we have hacked cracked the software of MS vista for your download pleasure

Ja guys.. really. The hackers will have it out in a few days.

MS saying it cant be cracked just makes them go all out as trying to crack it.. silly MS.

Ok, they may make it a pain in the a$$ to work on a cracked version, but for the price, I am willing to suffer. I mean, yes working on a cracked copy of XP, and getting updates is a bit of a mission, but it is do-able.

The same will apply to Vista. Yes it will be harder, and it will require more effort, but it will not be impossible.

getting updates for windows is pointless anyhow

i mean i dont have alot of important info so if someone wants to hack me by all means hahaha

It all depends, I for one am not going to buy Windows Vista for R1000 for the lowest package without the extra features. I'll have to save up a while if I want to buy the Ultimate version for +/- R3000 otherwise there is really no point.

Thats my opinion anyways. ;)

Its sort of like upgrading from a nVidia 6600GT to a 6600 Ultra, there really is no point. Rather worthwhile to upgrade from say a 6600GT to an X1950 XTX or 7950GTX ;)

Well ... my Win XP Pro forgets that a file I just copied into a previously shared folder should also be shared, forcing me to go and re-apply permissions, and, I cannot no way no how copy a .reg file from one PC to another.

I bet Vista's problems are gonna be much deeper than that.
/me puts it on the low low low priority list.

You are so right! I had a look at Vista. It looks very nice but everything I mean everything is different. It took me about 30 minutes to an hour to figure out the basics of Vista networking. (Like setting up file sharing)

Needless to say I reverted back to XP. (I will not pay R3k for Ultimate!)

I agree, I'm using RC1 (which is the ultimate version) and I wouldn't settle for anything less.

I installed the RTM four days ago. The installation was quick and easy (smoother than the betas or RCs) but still no drivers for any of my printers (except the deskjet) or optical mouse.

Some OT fonts (and a few TT) had problems and wouldn't work in Indesign.

Vista is nice. It's pretty. But it didn't take my breath away and definitely isn't worth 3000 odd bucks and I have now reverted to my legitimate version of XP.

I'm waiting for the day I can run Indesign, Acrobat and Photoshop on Ubuntu, and then I'll switch.
