Good day.. I just want to know what people that have used windows and apple think is better...

I know apple as no virus.. but is it users friendly?

And how it would be on laptops...

Thanks

I think Apple has some viruses... just a few though.

I'm not a big fan of Apple. I don't like to be told what software to use, which apps I can buy or not and which technologies are banned by Apple.

You have a million times more freedom on Windows or Linux.

I believe the OP is asking about computers, not the iphone.

And nope, no viruses in the wild.

I was under the impression that they keep a tight control on what apps can be released? Don't they have some issue with Flash also?

Nope - that's just the iOS platform. It was actually quite a departure from what apple users, and developers, were used to on the desktop.

Flash can be a bit of a resource hog at times on OSX but that's about it. The latest version is an improvement though.

Linux. I use all three and feel most comfortable in Linux, personal choice. Decide for yourself.

oh.. I thought apple was linux...

so.. there is linux apple and windows? wow.. but anyway yeah I know what you mean..

But the computer hard ware is the same right? It's only the software.. so like say I dont' like apple then I can format it and install windows?

No viruses, is that the only good thing about it?

(Yes, I am talking about computers.. as mentioned above, it's going to be a laptop.. :) )

Oh, as in like they didn't allow flash to be installed? But doesn't that mean like no web browsing and other stuff as well?

Yeah, I know, but I want to try something new, but I don't know if apple / linux is the way to go.. I've been with MS for my entire life lol

Apple's OsX is only licensed to run on Apple hardware.

No. OS X is NOT Linux. OS X is grew out of FreeBSD, Mach kernel, Darwin, NeXTSTEP.

The hardware is common PC hardware they use with the exception of a uncomplete EFI firmware as opposed to the common BIOS you know.

There are lot's of alternatives out there, it's your prerogative to explore. You'll be amazed how many operating systems are out there.

True. It's legal limitation, not a technical one.

There is a certain level of technical skill required as compared to loading Windows or Linux on a beige box and some hardware really does not lend itself to hackintosh.

That's why you pick your hardware carefully. So instead of buying Mac you build a custom pc but pick your hardware carefully and load OS X on it. I never said it was easy :D

The OP wants to run it on a laptop so a custom build is probably out of the question. :)

The simplest way to run OSX, Windows and Linux is to buy an Apple.

Well there are certain laptops that handle it better than others. How's you're netbook doing?

Simplest yes, cheapest no.

Either way he has to figure out what he wants and needs.

Viruses out the way, I think it comes down to which OS suits your work/home functions best. I had a mate who wanted to convert rich text to plain text easily on his Mac, on Windows I use a little freeware called PureText which does the job simply with a shortcut key. On the Mac, we couldn't find an equivalent.

Because of it's obscurity you will probably find a lot of functions which are simple to perform on a Windows based system either unavailable or costly on a Mac.

It's called Textedit. It's the default text editor and comes with the OS.

Still no built in Wifi but the rest seems to work.

To install Linux on a whatever box you decide just requires the skill to click "next". Though thats if there are no driver issues (which do happen)... but you woulda checked that before you installed linux.
