I must this error would be on my Top 10 list of "Errors I hate"

screenshot (local)

I'm trying to install Nero, which i got with my DVD Drive.
Not one of the options; "Cancel, "Try Again", Continue" works, nothing happens.

I removed the disk and re entered it, but still this error.

Even Task Manager doesn't remove it.

Do you perhaps have a virtual drive and have you not possibly mounted an ISO image from a CD or DVD into the virtual drive, then removed the physical disk containing the ISO? This can cause the error (re-insert the disk with the image and unmount the image first before removing the physical disk).

No virtual drive on the pc. Thanks anyway. :)

Any help anyone. Why does this occur?

Weird that it happens to my Nero Cd. :(
Yeah. Only thing I can think of is that you had previously tried to install it from a different source and it remembered that source to the registry....now its looking there again and not finding anything.

Did you have an old version installed/tried to install?

you seem to be having quite alot of troubles with your pc, threads everywhere. :) when last did you format and started out fresh again? coz that usually sorts out like 95% of all your probs, for me anyhow.
i remember once seeing an error something like that when trying to install a nero that came with a new lg dvd drive on a computer that had a previous version of nero installed for the cdrw.
first it complained about there being an other ver of nero and it must first be removed. after the uninstall/reboot my drives vanished from "My Computer" and then gave that "invalid volume" junk when it tried to run....
so i suggest a format to fix it... i think there's an even quicker way to clean xp. imagine it has something to do with the C:\windows\repair folder, maybe someone else could post about that? :)

LOL! :D Thanks hey! :o

Well it is currently going through it's second format for the night, weird error on the first one. :o

Will post when I'm trying it later on tonight, thanks for the advice though.

I have to say that I hate solutions where reformat is the answer

Something very weird...

Before the format, the pc (Sata harddrive) loaded in like 30 seconds.

Now after the format the pc loads in 4-5mins...

Weird :(

Given you have done a reinstall recently, there is only one way I can suggest to rule out hardware failure. Coz it is seeming likely that it could be the case.

Get a Linux LiveCD Distro. Install that distro on your whole Hard Drive. If the Linux fails to load, you have a hardware (HDD) problem most likely. If Linux reboots and loads, you have the option of fighting with drivers to make windows work. Or trying out Linux.

In all you do, the above will actually test if your issue is a hardware one or a OS one. If you fear Linux, try with one Windows version below. Although, if you go from XP to 95 I can't be sure there's much value with sticking with 95.

I'm currently busy with an XP, that is different than the one I bought. Just want to make sure there is not something wrong with my original cd.

Never used Linux, so will have to look into that. :o

If you say it is the hardware, I will swap around the RAM, if this installation also gives disappointing results. :(

Thanks for your help, much appropriated! :)

Update 1:

Looks like the original cd doesn't work as well.

Restart time is back to 30 seconds. :p

That sounds like a driver issue - you likely forgot to install the SATA or whatever hard drive controller driver...
