I have just received my new PC with 2 X 1TB HDD and installed windows XP. During insatallion XP showed the disk capacity as only 131gb. When looking at explorer after instalation of XP and service pack2 both HDD show only 131gb capicity instead of 1TB each
Is there an issue between XP and terrabyte discs? Please help. Thank u in advance.

Can't remember exact deatils but afaik 32gb is the limit unless you use and format disk in NTFS. Also check partitions under diskmamagement. I also suggest you upgrade to Service pack 3

Yes, XP prior to SP1 only supported <137 (131) GB drives. Were the hard disks formatted before you installed Windows XP? Could be that the installer created partitions of 131GB and left the rest unallocated.

Easiest would be to slipstream SP3 into your Windows disc, reformat and reinstall.

Or, try this - install XP on a 100Gb partition

Then, install SP3, and proceed with disk manager to create a 900Gb partition. (Unless you want 1 partition and not 2...)

dj_jyno please explain how I do the above please. I'm rather stupid with this sort of thing

Thanks all

Or HERE Full Detail with Pics to customize your setup to the full ..... once you get the hang of it, your CD could always be up-to-date

Simple question. My original XP instaltion disk is service SP1. Do I need to 1st slipstream SP2 and then SP3 or can I go directly to SP3

You seem noobish. Won't be too surprised if the retailer saw this and gave you 2x150GB HDD's instead, thinking you'd not know the difference.

hahahaha Agh! why bother.....!

Thanks to all those that gave me positive advise. True XP SP1 does not support large drives. All was fixed with slipstreaming SP3 into my XP installation disk

Well done!

I prefer to have a small primary/system drive (80gb -> max 160gb) and then the big mothers as dedicated data drives.
