Howzit folks! I was just wondering if someone can PLEASE help me about with Windows Service Pack 3 please?

I get the Windows Update message to download it and when I do so, it either crashes & goes to "Blue Screen" or installs perfectly.

When it installs perfectly, I then am unable to browse or load Web Pages at all. All give me the "Not Found" message.

I'm not capped, I've even formatted & ran a fresh install of XP SP2 then downloaded SP3 only to have my browser bomb out on me...

I don't really want to switch to FireFox...

If someone can help me out, I'd be SUPER gratefull. :D

Thanks!

Fixing Windows problems rarely results in having Windows on your system.
Sorry.

Is IE not working your only problem?
Did it work fine before installing SP3? If so then check your internet options & network settings before and after and make sure they're the same.
If you do a clean XP SP2 install you should still be on IE6 - did you at any point of this process upgrade to IE7?
Can you use the browser to your router's web admin? (in other words, is it the browser that's not working per se or is there a networking problem)

To check the networking: open 'n command line window and try pinging a site like "saix.net" and see if it resolves the IP address.

Why..??? Firefox is the best browser ever! IE suxxx
Don't know how to fix your problem tho.. Sorry

I agree, I like FireFox & used to use it on my old PC, I'm just determined to find out WHY & solve this problem. :)

Hey there! Thanks for the help!

Yup it worked perfectly well before installing SP3 - even with IE7. I've trippled checked my Network settings, along with my Router settings. Don't think its that though. I think it has something to do with my Update order or the Update itself.

After I run my Fresh Install, I do the SP3 update & it gives me IE7 automatically.

I've done a few ping tests & they seem fine, the packets aren't slow or anything. I don't think its a network problem though.

Going to give the guys at Microsoft a call now. Thanks again!

OK - I will bite.

Is IE not working, or is the internet being blocked?
Open a dos prompt.
Type: ping 168.210.2.2

Does it show results? or Timeouts?

If it shows timeouts, then it is more than likely some over zealous filter.
Let us know, and we can continue.

Maybe your connection is the issue? Do you have a router? Maybe the connection is trying to dial out or is not trying to - maybe it is doing the opposite of what it should be doing??

Could be that the SP has corupted your FW database
[start] [run] [cmd]

in the DOS window type:
netsh firewall reset

then reboot.

I know I had a problem with SP3 on one machine that i had to re-register a whole bunch of DLLs - I'll go find that for you and you can try it....

Ah, found it:

I had the same problem here after I installed SP3. You will have to create a new connection to the internet. Under newtork connections and then selecting Broadband, type in your ISP username and password.

Connect it, and bobs your uncle
