After pronouncing Windows Vista SP1 a "performance dud" two weeks ago, Devil Mountain Software, a Florida-based software development firm, reported that an upcoming update for Windows XP will offer substantial performance gains.

Running an Office productivity test suite on a preview version of Service Pack 3 for Windows XP, Devil Mountain discovered a 10 percent performance boost over the current version of Windows XP, the company reported on its blog.

:)

Not sure if this has been posted already, I did search though.

Damn - now Microsoft will hold back Windows XP SP3 until it is 10% slower than XP SP2 so that people are forced to upgrade to Vista.

I really wish they would release a SP5 for Windows 2000. Windows 2K is only 2 years older than XP.

You have to embrace change not fight it. Vista in some eyes might be a stuffup of gigantic proportions, but its new with new ideas.

Ordinary doesnt change the world.

This test is ridiculous, it gets all over the web... They ran an office productivity test. I could have done that with SP3 of XP.

Someone else already ran a few other normal benchmarking tests and you don't get the same 10% performance improvement, there isn't really any reason that you should. You probably won't even notice anything with SP3 of XP.

I doubt MS would hold it back either. Vista fud is getting so crazy it affects XP now.

XP getting faster, Vista getting slower...

:D

Vista is probably becoming relatively faster from SP1 than XP is from SP3, nevermind what an office productivity suite says. It helps the constant indexing and sleep problems plus a lot of the gaming fixes. Likely more than you'd notice from installing SP3 on XP.

No dude, seriously, that's a wide, sweeping remark. It's new...ish, that's all. Do you pay any attention to all the bad press it's gotten? System resource heavy, buggy, bad driver support, the fact that a LOT of people asked for XP to be installed again rather?

First year at University? ;)

Perhaps if you could expand on this philosophical approach of yours?

Just wanted to say the same:p

What does that have to do with anything?

It's called a joke. Not gonna bother explaining if you don't get it, it's pretty simple.

A light-hearted poke in jest.

Issues Zenbaas?

Glad you see it that way.

OMG are you still sore about our little "tussle" yesterday!?

Life is short dude, let it go.

So you're gonna be gunning for me now huh, haha, that's funny. Some people take forums a little too seriously.

Not at all:D You misunderstand me. I just get a bit, lets say aggrevated when people who disagree with someone else suddenly start throwing in derogatory comments...etc. I you didn't mean anything by it then fine:)
I think i spend too much time on PCformat's forum where this happens all the time(and p*sses me off to no end).

Yip I understand.
I take things lightly and like to joke around, ...makes life easier.
Peace.

The changes aren't just visual, the API is different to XP's so in some ways he's right.

I remember a lot of bad press following the release of 2000 and XP too, when MS decided to start basing their OS's on NT. It's a new OS, not just an upgrade from one of the previous versions so there's bound to be bugs. I thought that's what SP's sought to address?

If you want to get your BP up go surf on their forums a bit:D Nothing like some nice hot blood rushing through your veins:mad:

Ok woteva, if someone wants to make a statement that insinuates that Vista is some kind of prophet-like OS heralding a bright & shiny digital future, then I disagree.
On top of that, I find it a curious viewpoint given all the evidence to the contrary.
At it's best Vista is no better than XP and merely another OS to choose from that requires a better system and offers DX10.
Just cos things are new doesn't mean that they're better.

IMO
