Hi All
I am running windows XP sp3 on a pentium D pc. Also use avg free v8 and registry booster 2.
I picked up a funny virus Avg picked it up and removed the actual threat and after rescanning it was not found again but if I open any file within window its comes up with a critical message warning about a virus and the wants to connect to the internet searching for a free virus scanner.(the virus detected originally was ie antivirus exe)

After closing IE 7 the windows file still open only to come up with the same thing again.

the exe file and music mp3 file are not affected. the file downloaded that I suspect cased the were name "c system"

please help
Anyone that has experienced this and resolved it!!

Much appreciated

I think you should maybe get a commercial anti-virus scanner to make sure, also in the future you should not visit um... non-completely-ethical sites such as "FREE FREE FREE" and the likes. That's just about the only place you do pick up viruses. Apart from piracy that is.
You can download a trial version of something like McAfee/ Norton or whatever and do a full system scan. Also, why do you use registry software? They usually do more damange than anything else. Especially if you have non-legit software and spyware/adware on your pc.
I can't say that I have had this virus, or really know what it is like to have them. Been virus-free from 2003.

also stop using IE7

its like a gateway to all the spyware on the internet

format and load firefox as your browser

Oh yeah, forgot to mention that. To take a further step against viruses, burn all illegal/legal copies of M$ Windoze you might have and download Ubuntu or the likes of a Linux distro. You won't have virus issues, I can guarantee you that. Even if you go to warez.com...

froot i have been using vista 64 bit since it launched and never had spyware or a virus

64 bit is less likely to get a virus, dont even have a virus scanner anymore :)

check it monthly and thats about it

True, Vista 64 is almost completely virus free, but you have to admit that Linux, especially if using Linux 64-bit, there are no viruses for it.

yup for sure, but i think when ppl buy vista they should know that 64 bit is way safer than 32 bit vista

i can remember getting so many virus's all the time on xp, its been nothing but a pleasure not having a virus scanner :)

How'd you manage that? My last infection with Windows XP was about a year and a half ago (and that was because of an infected USB drive) which was caught by my anti-virus. I can't even remember when I was infected before that...

dont know how i used to get infected just always seemed to

the biggest problem i had was at a lan someone as joke turned off all my security and i got a virus, so i like no fine reload but the freakin virus is in all my data so i would reload and get reinfected with another hdd

i could not delete my old data as it was important but at the same time i kept getting all my .exe files deleted by avg because they where infected

then i got vista and never had a virus since

spyware, dont even get me start on freakin spyware on xp

although im going back to windows xp well sort of

beanie go search for lastxp on google

OMFS incredible

Seems to be another permutation of Windows XP Black Edition :p

I prefer weekly backups, an ounce of prevention... (you know the rest) :D

o that one

its not xp with updates and apps, ok it is but the apps are optional

its xp that looks and feels better than vista, its the performance of xp with the feel of a better vista

the apps are optional meaning you dont need to install them, its the look and feel of the OS that looks amazing

also if you dont install the appz its not considered a pirate copy i would imagine if you own both home and pro cd keys

no i thought u meant my old copy of xp where i was getting virus's was a black edition

black edition is basically xp with apps, this is xp that just looks amazing :), looks better than vista

look here beanie

you cannot tell me it does not look like xp on steroids :)

You also don't need to install the applications with Windows XP Black Edition, and it also includes Vista skins and some effects if I recall correctly... I'll stick to my plain Windows XP Professional if it's all the same :D
