Windows7 explorer.exe crashing when trying to extract zip files

Looks like you have 7-Zip installed. Reinstall latest version?

I installed it just before getting that report.

Previously there was some spybot search & destroy stuff listed there so I unistalled it and removed the folders after rebooting. Same issue, so I installed the latest 7-zip (which was never installed in the first place) and the problem persists.

Windows has a built in zip/unzip. Uninstall 7-Zip and try use that.
 
Mismatch in version and timestamp of USER32.dll

Reinstall from source disk, but I agree, it smells fishy, it might be not sufficient. Virus scan, send sample to online scanners.

Uninstalled 7-zip, installed wrar and that integrates into the shell and the Extract All... from windows is now gone with only the winrar options left in the menu. I'm happy with that solution.

Would that have occured if I did a system repair from a win7 dvd that was a newer build than the installed system?

I'll scan for malware and virii.

Normally it isnt worth the time or effort and to still have an element if uncertainty - reinstall should only take an hour or so if the hardware isn't more than 5 years old.

Yes. However installed version usually receives fixes, so it is normal that version from DVD is outdated. Microsoft is able to handle that as system keeps is a copy of KB's and install logs.

Suspected virus, but check hard drive condition in first place. SMART, scan for delays, SMART.
