Cape Town – Gale-force winds devastating the Cape nearly ran a bulk carrier aground at Blouberg Beach on Tuesday, as the south coast of the country stood in line for a drenching over Wednesday and Thursday.

But an e-mail doing the rounds apparently from someone at the City of Cape Town claiming that the system would coincide with a spring high tide was false, Reit said.

“It’s not even spring - it’s the middle of winter. It’s just an intense frontal system and it’s going to create strong to gale-force winds. It’s not even a storm, it’s just winds.”

Reports of 12-16m swells were also exaggerated. Reit predicting swells between 7m and 9m.

Did News24 seriously quote a senior weather forecaster as saying a spring tide occurs in spring? :eek: Either the forecaster has no clue about what she is saying or News24 are misquoting. My money is (as usual on the latter), particularly since it goes on to state: "Reit predicting swells..."
What shocking journalism.

Start a blanket drive at work, help charities, donate tin food.
 
and why does it always storm when you have to leave to go to work then the day is ok and just about the time you must go home it comes belting down again?

It's the price you pay for unparalled scenery, and 14.4 hours of sun at the height of summer. A pretty good trade if you ask me!
