Anyway, I'm happy if it's a Shatterprufe and is laminated.

All front windscreens are laminated.

Shatterprufe does have a good marketing team though.

Also fun fact...if you wear polarized shades you can see what glass is laminated vs tempered. (Tempered makes you see patterns - usually chequered, while laminate looks clear).

Personally - the PG glass thing where they come to your place of work sold the deal for me.

Have not seen any other references to them, but Grandmark are also reputable and recall that they are more reasonable.

Only newer cars, a lot of the older cars it was just fitted with rubbers, not glued in like newer cars and with airbags it plays a key part in the deployment and efficacy of the airbag

I agree that sensors and the like will push up the price on modern cars, but early to mid 90's Corolla's were also glued in. So structural aspects are irrelevant as the op's '01 Corolla windshield will definitely be the glued in type too. It looks like they charging you 5k for the sensors on the Golf windscreen.

Thread revival.... @grim, did PG give you a breakdown of the cost? Stone hit my windscreen on the bonding point near the rain sensor, after 5km of driving it cracked from the edge to halfway into the drivers view. Does the rain sensor need to be replaced with the windscreen??

When replacing a windscreen with a rain sensor, the new glass comes with a rain sensor bracket which holds the rain sensor computer box. The component is simply unclipped from the old glass and then clipped onto the new windscreen. Some rain sensors require a gel pad to fit between the rain sensor and the glass - we order this replacement gel part with all windscreens and it is not expensive - a few hundred bucks.

New rain sensor parts are R2500-R5000 so re-use is more economical and works fine as long as the fitment centre does not bend the fastening clips during removal from the old glass.

My advices is to go Shatterprufe and not Grandmark.

IMO you will hear the difference and hopefully never feel the difference.

Yes Grandmark is possibly cheaper but there is reasons for this.

FUYAO is a great generic brand. We sell them and they are identical to Shatterprufe. Grandmark and USG are rubbish

Thanks flash, I went past PG to get a breakdown of costs, they said the shatterprufe one is 6k, and the vw one is 7.5k. I'm worried about leaks and wind noise so I thought just go vw just in case. 850 excess vs 1150 excess...
