I don't really drink white wine so I am looking for advice on some nice semi-sweet white wine in the price class of R30-R60 / bottle.

Also any recom. on red wines in the price class of R40 - R80 / bottle.

Thanks in advance :)

Oranje Rivier -Ruby Cabernet, even the cabernet sauvignon is very nice.
Very Cheap - Tassies Broer Tassies!!!
Grunberger- Rosenlese
Grunberger- Freudenlese

Stay off the semi-sweet. That stuff is bad for you.

It is not for me. I don't drink white wine. Well maybe 2 glasses a year with some fish on a hot summers day.

Mmmm I have seen the oranje rivier one. Will give it a try :)

Ps I like both the KWV cabernet sauvignon and pinotage.

Oh Mila. How I pray for your heathen soul!:p:D

Devill.
It depends what kind of red wine mate.
Blend, single cultivar - up front and spicy or smooth and mellow or full bodied.
Even those these can be related to women, I am talking about wine. ;)

:D Hey I like a good red but my friends drink the pink and white stuff and i have to say that is the best of the bunch. Or IMO.

But I like being a heathen:D

I like them all. I also like trying different ones :)

I don't mind blended. I can appreciate the dry as well as the sweet ones although I rarely drink sweet wine.

I prefer red and something a tad fruity.

+1 ... used to only drink semi-sweet but it's grown to taste like  to me

Robertson's and Van Loveren have both got some nice reds in their collection.

On the white side, reasonably priced too, Drostdy Hof has a really nice light white wine, which for a non-winer like me, it's not too bad. Has a nice fruity and light taste. ;)

Ok - fruity - then try a shiraz. The younger red earth variety are normally a bit higher in tannins and spicier but allows for it to breathe better and the shiraz is normally fruity with lots of red berries flavours with an undertone of chocolate.

I dont know what you are able to get up in pta so it is dificult to suggest specific farms.

I personally stay away from KWV unless it is well aged.
I find the younger ones a tad over rated.

what is the occasion?

The best red I've had was Alto Rouge 2006, it's a bit pricey though, you'll pay like R110 for one (maybe way less depending where you buy)

Also, the Meerlust Rubicon is also a good wine

Yes, the Alto is one of the best.
Rubicon is over prices, same as the Kanonkop. You pay for the name.

Its tuesday.

Good point. Then go to your local Tops and pick a shiraz or two and let us know what you liked.
Hmmm this could be an interesting little "club".
