i have a problem... i zipped all my high school photos with winrar and i added a password for some stupid reason...
anyway, now, three years later, i felt like looking at those photos but i cant remember the password!
is there a way to work around this?

nope there are password crackers out there but it would be very hard to crack the password i've tried before..

alll depends on how hard it was... only numbers? e.g. 12345? you know what i mean

but ive never had positive results with a rar password cracker before

There are a few crackers, but depending on the size of the passwords it will take a while to crack it using brute force.

er, i don't put up passwords in photo's at all

this reminds me of the time i installed Vista with a wrong password (wireless keyboard) and coincedently re - typed it. i couldnt log in and had to format again lol

I might've been able to help you with that ;)

First things first. Find out with what version of winrar you compressed the files. All the encryption of the early versions (<v2.98 I think) can be broken within seconds.

The new-ish winrars use 128bit AES. Chances of breaking that is pretty much zilch unless the password is short/appears in a normal dictionary.

The info on the RAR file format is in the winrar dir under technote.txt. You'll probably need to analyze the RAR file header by hand to figure out the version #. I hope your binary is up to scratch...

What HavocXphere said.

Regarding the new passwords:
It's generally accepted that any RAR password longer than 8 characters cannot be cracked by brute force. By "cannot" I mean that it would take too long and tie up a machine for too long for it to be worth it to crack a 9 character password. Don't even bother with 10 characters unless you have a coupla super computer cluster that're not doing much for the next coupla months.
