Hi guys

Been using Netgear units for ages, but recently getting fed up with them.
any changes I make to the unit, then it reboots, then when it comes back I can wire connect and have traffic, but battle for ages to get the Wi-Fi side working.

Also, the previous model had 2 aerials (previous unit in the silicon box up there after a lightening strike), with good signal to the back of the house, the new unit I'm now using (DGN2200V2 / N300 capable) does not have any external aerials, so we lost about 4m of coverage, and ye it's an important 4m... :)

Looking for something better.

Looking for something that maybe have a 3G card as a alternate signal source if the ADSL line goes down.

I current have a 6Mb line/link, although I'm approved for 10Mb, just waiting for Telkom to enable.

suggestions.

I am currently using a Billion 7300W, it is not a bad router. I am a bit biased and dislike Netgear routers, just have not had a good experience with them and their interface annoys me.

Heard some good things about the TP Link routers, as well as some bad things. More good than bad though, provided you go with one of the better models.

D-Link seem to have some good routers too, however the 2750U I have isn't that great in terms of line stats - not sure what chipset it runs and whether it might just be my unit which is faulty.

I have ordered myself a Billion VDSL router, so waiting for that. If you think you might have plans on getting VDSL in the future now might be the time to invest in a VDSL router.

I really like my ASUS router (RT-N65U). It has dual band wifi, a download manager, 2 usb 3 ports which can be used for 3g failover, printer or connecting a hard drive for the download manager or dlna server etc. I did not want a router with a built in modem so that it is future proof and i like to think that if lightning strikes, it will only take out the cheaper, replaceable modem.

It comes down to what your needs are. If you need to basically connect a few devices and have good range consider the ASUS RT-N12HP. The router has serious range and has a few extra features. Check out rebeltech where is is listed at R829.

Hi guys

Thanks for all the information, one of my friends came up with the point... the ADSL router side is fine, my problem is the wireless AP side, so why not disable the WiFi side and get a dedicated AP.

But will keep the rest of these comments, def worth while.
