Wireless broadband price comparison

For me price is only half the equation. It would be very interesting to see in addition to price what the actual performance experience is with each type of account. So, even though a certain account might be more expensive, if it constantly gives its advertised (or close as possible) throughput then for me that is a much better deal. Maybe MyADSL could run a test on each account for a month or so and publish the results?

All things being equal, look like vodacom is the best option at the moment.

Hi Bernie

You can have a look at our ratings report here: http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?t=57426

It is however a big understaking to test these services accurately se we only do this once or twice a year...

RPM

Ahhh, must have missed it. Great work. Thank you. :)

The best marginal bandwidth rate on wireless is R189 per Gig.

Telkom's most expensive wholesale price is R56.32 per Gig.

One can understand higher costs for the smaller packages, to allow operators to cover their fixed costs, but there is no excuse for such high tarriffs on additional bandwdith.

Blaming it all on Telkom just doesn't wash.

What's sad to me is that the wireless prices are comparable to the wire-line prices.

Vodacom recently released their pre-paid data bundles making it possible for the first time for consumers to use their HSDPA offerings without signing a contract.
Not signing a contract as a trend with networks, all that remains now are modems/data cards in line with regular modems (ADSL modem R399).

Network modems/data cards are still a ripoff.

Both Vodacom and MTN have 1.8 Mbps HSDPA offerings, but iBurst’s and Sentech’s 1 Mbps services are not far behind regarding average throughput speeds.

What is this comment based on? I'm yet to see/read about any MTN/Vodacom user getting higher than IBurst speeds. Its even been documented on here.

Did the report calculate iBursts extra 500/200mb into the equation? It makes life a little harder for these kinds of comparisons.

As soon as you go above 2GB the cellular opertaors fall out compared to iBurst, and maybe Sentech too..

True. To be fair, the report should also include "normal and healthy" internet usage, and not only focus on starvation rations.

Even high-load provider as Verizon get confused with their accounts and only can guarantee you through the bottleneck of Telkom. In this very moment Vodacoms wireless 3G offer seems to be the most price competitive/reliable fastets in the market.

Despite this is still expensive compare to European prices. I would love to know what bandwhidth and price range the Multichoice offer will be. Has anybody an idea in what time frame they speak? For your information: on the PVR are two USB ports available for future use who are actually meant for internet connectability.
