Hi all! I am having a problem with setting up my laptop to connect wirelessly to my Telkom Premium Combo router. It does connect to it, but does not go on the internet at all. When i have a look at my connectivity status, it says local only. Why cant i connect the internet via wireless?

It is working fine through the normal cable on my computer.

Check your IP address settings on the PC/Laptop.

I presume you are using VISTA and if you have a static IP that is not on the same range as the router you can connect to the router but not the internet.

Set it to DHCP.

I had a problem a few weeks ago where my laptop did not get the DNS ip's from the router's DHCP. Still don't know why but it happened with wired and wireless but only from my laptop. Not from my desktop.

In the end I just hard set the DNS ip on my laptop and everything was fine.

Click on the window (start) button bottom left --> control panel --> under the NETWORK and INTERNET option click on view network status and tasks --> manage network connections --> right click on the wireless adaptor and select properties --> double click on internet protocol version 4 (TCP/IPv4) --> check that both of the ticks are on obtain automatically --> click OK on both windows to close them. You should be able to connect to the internet now.

Ok, it still doesnt want to connect to the net, i have changed the ip settings. I have done the ipconfig/ all. Not sure what you need from there, as i cant seem to copy and paste.

Thanks for the help guys!
