Hello

Please could someone assist me.

I have Wireless LAN, there are 3 PC's, one acts as a server.

The access point is connected to this server & the other two pc's have wireless pci cards installed & they read data of this server via the AP.

Everything works fine, however I want to know how to connect my adsl modem onto the server, because currently the ethernet port is being used by the access point.

Do I need to install a new network card (2nd) onto the server or, should a i buy a switch, connect it to the server & then plug the access point & adsl modem into it, will this work ?

Is there any other alternatives ?

Thank you

Kind Regards

I'm not an expert in this, and I'm assuming your modem doesn't have wireless capabilities.

As far as I know your only option really is to either connect the modem to the server pc, and then set it up so that the other pc's share that pc's internet connectivity. Or you could possibly connect the modem to each pc individually, assuming they have regular ethernet connections as well as the wireless ones. But that kind of defeats the whole point of wirelessness, and they're connected by wires.

You could also buy a new wireless ADSL modem. The wireless pci cards can then pick up the internet straight from the modem

buy a switch (R200 tops for an entry level jobbie.) Connect the AP and DSL router to the switch. Use proper TCP routing to provide internet access (establish the internet connection from the router, not via that Internet Connection sharing junk.)

What AP do you have? Does it have a WLAN port (RJ45 Jack) on the back? If so you can hook a ADSL modem (with ethernet out, I have a Billion 5200S, works great) directly to the AP, set the PPPoE up on the Modem and have the AP handle DHCP. Don't forget to configure the modem and AP on seperate subnets and have the AP as your PCs default gateway.

If you don't have an WLAN on the AP, does it have a LAN ports? If so then you can use the AP as a switch.

If none of the above apply then your only other option is to put a seperate switch in your network.
