Wireless Media Player

HAHA, but hows the wireless streaming :D

They look pretty cool.
I like the idea of XMBC but Ive gotta try set up all this shizz and ive never done it before.
Xtreamer does not seem to have much info on the net...
Edit: Nevermind .co.za site was not the greatest!

OpenELEC Baby!

1) Download Zip from here (Yes it has a build dedicated to the Xtreamer)
2) Put installer on USB Flash.
3) take 10 minutes to install on HTPC.

I'm willing to bet the GUI on this looks a lot better than the mede8er offers.

Update...

Ive just suggested all the above options and this is the reply...
To be honest this is all Greek to me and my mom is the same. We trust your judgement and budget is obviously no issue so do what you think is best and as minimally complicated as possible

EDIT: What about Ethernet over power outlets? Could that not work?

These seam to be your criteria
-Installation Difficulty (Hardware and software)
-GUI Ease of use & quality
-Compact Size
-Build Quality

HP MicroServer:
Installation: Intermediate to Advance (Needs video card, wireless & XBMC installed)
GUI: Great, XBMC!
Size: it's quite big.
Build Quality: Okay

AppleTV:
Installation: Intermediate to Advance (if you intend to install XBMC)
GUI: Good. better if XBMC installed.
Size: Small
Build Quality: Great

Mede8er:
Installation: Easy
GUI: Bad. No XBMC Support!
Size: Medium
Build Quality: Good

ACRyan:
Installation: Easy
GUI: Bad. No XBMC Support!
Size: Small
Build Quality: Very Cheap

Xtreamer Ultra:
Installation: Easy, even with XBMC.
GUI: Great, XBMC!
Size: Small
Build Quality: Great

The Xtreamer seems to be what you are looking for.
Compact. wireless out the box. no stress to install XBMC, awesome GUI, easy to use, and great build quality.
It's expensive @ R2850, but if money is not an issue, it's a winner.

Thanks Keeper.
Appreciate the time you have put into that list.

Like I said, if it were for me, if go your route ( great guide btw )

But I think the Ultra might be the way.
Would it work with those ethernet over power things incase the wifi is too slow?

No Problem. i'd say it's a fair comparison
I've slated the Xtreamer with dolby, another forumite... but it's only because it has no internal storage options (which you don't want) and is expensive (which is no issue for you)

I have no idea about "PoE", sorry, but I've just never used it.
CAT 5e is always an option though, if you do run in to trouble (which I don't think you will, being an open-plan house)

Fantastic!
Ill give them the options and then they must decide.

Again, thank you very much!

PS: You should read this guide:
http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=127492

Obv you will not be using an HP Microserver, but OpenELEC is covered, and you should definitely give PseudoTV a try! (Covered extensively... almost half of the manual)
(Really, you should)

200 channels is awesome!

The Mede8er is an awesome player. Very easy to use and can do everything u want it to.....until you want to do HD content over the network. My dad has the 500, tried to stream HD from pc to tv.....lagged, maybe others in the house were using the network at the same time, I wouldn't know. Father in law has the 500x2. Tried copying over LAN and reaches only near 6-7mb per second. Stated speed on their webside is 6 - 8 mb per second if I remember correctly (even with the 500x2 having a Gigalan port).

Recently bought the Western Digital TV Live Gen3 (WDTV Live) it does not have a drive, but you can plug in any USB2.0 HDD or Flash drives, it includes Wireless N, a really great interface and setup system. Controller apps for Android and iPhone/iPod/iPad. HD streaming is awesome. I run videos and music streaming wireless from a NAS drive and it is without even one hiccup. Western Digital even update it at least once every month and add new streaming services every now and then. It also includes Youtube HD, Tune-in internet Radio and a bunch of games. I had the previous gen WDTV but the latest version is a major improvement.

They work well too and is always an option Netgear have a reasonable sized range of them Or you could for a wireless range extender like this Netgear one - simply plug and play speaking from experience.
