Wireless Mesh Systems

My due date for delivery is only the 2nd January 2024.

But since the Vilos are sold out. I will not have buyers regrest, probably.
Bummer.

Yeah with Ethernet backhaul you won’t have any issues. They work great as far as access points go/distributing WiFi. I’m very happy with WiFi backhaul. 3x nodes for R999 was an absolute steal.

Will add a 4th node in the cottage soon using Ethernet backhaul, and follow the steps of adding a Vilo from another box.

On the crapper this morning and speeds are even better. Everything is really nice and responsive too – much faster than the centrally positioned UniFi AC-Pro I was using previously.

From bed earlier which is a dense brick wall and wooden cladding away from the main node.

Damnit, can't believe I missed out on this deal. My tenda mesh is in need of an upgrade. I live vicariously through you @capd :)

Anyone know how the H80X would compare against the Deco X60?
Dont know, but I copied the specifications, deleted that which seems similar:

HALO H70X-3TP-Link Deco X60
Dual Band Wi-Fi 6 Speeds up to 1800 Mbps: 1201Mbps on 5GHz and 574Mbps on 2.4GHz. (1)Faster Connections: Wi-Fi 6 speeds up to 5,400Mbps (4,804Mbps on 5GHz and 574Mbps on 2.4GHz).

So the speed of the 5ghz is the biggest difference and the Gigabit ports H70x has 3 vs Deco 2

Anyone know how the H80X would compare against the Deco X60?
Oops I did if the H70x cause that was what I was interest in.

Quick glance:

HALO H80X-3
- Dual Band Wi-Fi 6 Speeds up to 3000 Mbps: 2402 Mbps on 5GHz and 574Mbps on 2.4 GHz. (1)
- Full Gigabit Ports: 3 x Gigabit ports per Halo unit for lightning-fast wired connections. (5)

So a bit slower. But at that speed will you notice?
3 pack is R3200 vs Deco R 8,499

Thanks! I'm always skeptical of those speeds they list anyway, they often just add up all the theoretical speeds of the different bands, which is not a useful metric to use!

I actually have the X60, but was thinking it may be worth to sell them, and get the H80X and pocket the change :D

Ethernet backhaul setup for the 4th node.

Home mesh is home mesh and pretty much any vendor that has that will be fine, even the Cudy which is the most cost effective. Its robust as it will ever be. It will work best wired but will also do pure wireless or a hybrid of both. It creates routing tables based on babel. Theoretically they should be compatible across vendors but ja well no fine, not really.

The biggest issue going pure wireless will always be placement and router to router it will suffer going through a slab or wall. Also another barrier that it won't penetrate is tinted windows. Attempt to place them in a stair well, top and bottom or through the roof cavity.
In a pickle you can try pick up a bounce from the edge of the house off another building or wall. Trees don't work. Takes a big of experimentation and move the device left and right by a metre at a time until the signal is the best.

If you have dry walls then you are in the pound seats. Wifi is fine through that. If you are a business, pony up for ceiling mounted units.

But whatever you do, do not join the cult of the satanic worshipers of WiFi extenders.
Nope stay faaaaaaaaaaaar away from cudy routers they are super kak. They sent me one of their routers and it had WRT firmware on it, absolute garbage router, Reyee is best

I'm very happy with the Mercusys H80x, I assume the H70x is pretty good too. Main reason I'd suggest it is at least it's wifi 6.

2. Yes that should work.
3. It's fine to run them as access points.

How is the roaming on the mercusys mesh? My devices sometimes wander off and connect to the faaaaaar AP in my mesh (when nothing is wrong with the closer AP), which creates crappy connections.

PS. I have a wired backhaul

Ok, mesh system was delivered. App was not as intuitive as I hope, eventually figured it out.

Struggle to connect the Mi stick in my daughter room to the system. Took the dongle and move it to the lounge and it connected it to the mesh to the main router. Then moved the stick back to my daughters room, it connects now.

Otherwise all good. Bought more CAT6 lan cables. Have to go up to the ceiling to lay it properly, currently the one cable is on the floor to my daughter room just to connect and check everything is working.

Speed tests on wifi is now at 100/100 which before was limited to 54/54 due to my old router wifi speeds.

Planning to buy a small 8 port network (gigabit) to connect my desktop pc and other stuff permanently via ethernet cables.

You go for H70X ?

Do you only have Laptops / TV box / Mobile phones connected or do you have some other IoT devices (smart switches/home automation stuff) as well ?

No home automation, planning to go that route eventually though. Just normal stuff connected at the moment. Computers, mobile devices etc.

I’ve had issues with Mi Boxes on 2.4GHz channel 11. May have been to do with that? Or band steering?

Otherwise sounds good.

This app? No issues for me.
