Wireless mouse advise please. This Microsoft mouse is HORRID!!!! WTF??!!!

So yesterday I decided to feed my mouse and keyboard fetish and went against my better judgment and purchased a wireless mouse and keyboard from Game, the Microsoft media 1000 combo. The keyboard is decent enough but this mouse is a disgrace!!! Not only is it limited in terms of functionality (3 buttons in total) but the scroller is nasty beyond belief!!!! It's a serrated, clicky action as opposed to a smooth action. It is f ucking horrible!!

Now the easiest thing to do is take it all back for a full refund but my question is are other wireless mice lightly to be compatible with this particular usb receiver or do these devices generally run on their own unique frequencies?? I want to replace this mouse with something more to my liking...

Every mouse and keyboard combo has their own unique receiver. If you want another mouse, you will have to buy a completely new set.

Oh yeah, and stay away from Microsoft. Rather go for Logitech if you want wireless as their batteries lasts about a year and a half.
 
I got a Microsoft Explorer Wireless Optical Bluetrack USB mouse. It's got great build quality - feels like a solid piece of equipment. I like the replaceable and rechargeable AAA battery. It also comes with a neat docking charger. Accuracy in use is good, although I'm still convinced that a wired mouse would be better! The buttons are very good and customizable. The scroll wheel is smooth with good range.

I previously tried a logitec wireless mouse and took it back after a day - did not enjoy it at all.


Edit: The Logitec mouse I had the battery lasted a couple hours - part of the reason I took it back!!
 
I have had a Microsoft Wireless desktop for AGES now, it's awesome.
 
This keyboard is sweet but the mouse is a deal breaker unfortunately... Damn it!!!
 
I bought the MS Wireless Desktop 3000 after my Logitech Dinovo failed and I must say it is pretty decent. It is a blue tech mouse, meaning it will work on virtually any surface, and it is fairly solid.

I tend to differ with your view. I have a Microsoft X6 keyboard (yes it is wired) and a Microsft X8 Mouse (wired or wireless) and they work brilliantly. The house battery charge lasts for up to 32hours if used like 24 hours a day but with modderate use (4-6 hours a day) it goes for close to a week (not bad for a wireless laser mouse).

My experience with Logitech is a bit different though. The keyboards batteries lasted quite long (close to 7 months) but the mouse had to be replaced quite regularly (2 x AA every Month, optical lower power draw). The set I had was the EX110 from Logitech.
 
I must add though, last week work got me a MS wireless desktop 700 from Dion wired and ending up taking it back, was the biggest piece of rubbish.

The keyboard kept missing keys whilst typing and the mouse was sluggish and simply cheap and nasty. Swoped it for a logitech EX 100. Much better.
 
My advice is to stay away from wireless peripherals completely. They are ALL a bunch of junk and a waste of batteries. The only time you can justify them is if your absolutely have to be several feet away from your computer... and even then, the further you go the more useless they become. Let's face it... wireless technology still sucks.

Get some cable extensions and buy a very nice wired keyboard and mouse... then tidy up the wires by putting them in that spiral wire tubing. You will have much less head banging and battery charging.
 
Logitech wireless mouses can give up to 9+ months battery life. And their keyboards up to 1.5+ years.
 
Tend to agree Gary... Purchase was on impulse and against my better judgment. Does make things neat and tidy though and the keyboard is to my liking. Plugged my wired mouse back in though so what I have now is effectively a R500 wireless keyboard which is a bit of a waste...
 
I'm on my second and definitely last Microsoft Wireless set. I had a logitech set originally, but decided to "upgrade" to a Microsoft Wireless laser set. It constantly drops keys and sometimes the entire set just stops working for a few seconds, randomly. The logitech set had no such problems so, if it is wireless interference, only the Microsoft sets are affected by it.

I raised a customer service thing with MS, and I must say that their service was good, but you can only do so much for a ****ty product. They gave me a brand new set no questions asked when they could not help me resolve the problem, unfortunately this new set suffers from the same problem.

Sounds like a common fault with MS wireless KB's, mine was doing the exact same thing.
 
I got the Logitech MX5500, Revolution Mouse comes with a Lithium battery and also a charging cradle so I hardly ever have any battery issues with it.
