Could someone please give me some assistance or advice here please

I have the following:
In computer room
Desktop with wireless USB adapter, VC E220 attached
Laptop with wireless network card

In lounge
X-Box 360

I want to create a wireless network and share internet connections between the 3 devices & also file sharing to the X-Box

I know how to do the internet & file sharing, but what i want to know is what the easiest way is to create a network so the X-Box can access it. Can I just get a wireless access port for the lounge and connect that to the X-Box and then that will connect wirelessly to the desktop to get the net & file sharing?

Is an access port basically a router that the connection can be shared between?

And i assume access ports also have a standard ethernet port?

I've seen a Gigabyte access port going for R360, good deal or not?

Thanks

Yes, a access point capable of client-bridge (like a WRT54G running dd-wrt) will do just that.

yeah sorta.

yes.

probably. Just make sure it can be a client to another AP.

Edit: probably a good deal.

No offense Dade, but i spoke to our IT guy at work and he is not so sure it will work and be able to share the internet connection.

Could others chime in before i fork out please

Smurfatefrog: It will work, Check this link: http://www.practicallynetworked.com/sharing/xp_ics/

If your Xbox version support wireless. You don't even need an Access point for the Xbox. Just configure your PC corretly...And it can be done easily. Seriously don't where did that IT guy got his INFO...

If your desktop usb adaptor is capable of ad hoc mode then it will work. Put desktop in ad hoc mode, put wrt in client bridge and connect to desktop. Connect xbox to wrt via cat and your sorted.

Yes, or put the WRT in AP mode and connect your pc as client to the WRT. It will be exactly the same as if the computer and the X-Box is connected through a physical cable.

EDIT: In which case any wireless access point should do the trick.

Excellent, thanks guys
Dont have a wireless device on my XBox and it seems cheaper to get a Wireless AP then an X-Box device, and that way i would also have ethernet connectivity in the lounge should i need it for anything else later on

So something like this would do the job perfectly?
