I want to set up a wireless network between two houses. Both houses are on the same property, about 25m apart, with perfect line of sight.

But since there is grass and bricks and stuff between them, a wired connection is not possible.

What is the best way to set it up? Somebody said I should put some kind of panel on each of the chimneys (they're in line). I really don't know how to go about this so any (cheap) idea is welcome.

Only a network between the two houses is required, to share some files and LAN.

Hi the panel option is expensive, and is usually used for longer range. The cheapest is to setup 2 wireless routers with the same SSID different IP's and only one DHCP (IP provider) on the network. You can also setup one of wireless router as AP and the other as repeater.

yea. if the houses are next door to each other... then it should pick it up with a bit of strange walking around holding it the air.

Sorry, but this is going to be off-topic. How is it possible that you have been registered since 2007 and this is your first post?:wtf:

Get yourself 2x of these http://www.scoopdistribution.co.za/product_info.php?cPath=101_75&products_id=1002

Configure them with same SSID and in bridge mode, change the IP address on one of the units, and make sure you only have 1 DHCP server giving out IP's on the network and wolla next step is to configure WPA2 on the devices and some ACL to ensure it's secure.

Wouldn't these: http://www.scoopdistribution.co.za/product_info.php?products_id=1104 be better? 5Ghz as ooposed to 2.4, and quite new. We're trying them out for our wug links, and they're performing very well. And at a range of 25m, the throughput will be astronomical.
